Kudos to cat in 09

damn

I miss my polaris hand warmers. Got the suspension dialed in pretty good on the hcr today and I am truly amazed how it handles getting to the steep and deep. I lose a little with the 90 durometer track, but it climbs amazing also. Its far from a stock m8, but I smoked a stock xp 146 on flat ground with a good base and about a foot of powder. He did out climb me by about 15 ft though, and couldn't stick with me through the bumps comfortably. Like Is said before, " I don't care what you ride, just ride". I'm a newby cat fan though. Tim

im really not convinced on cats reliability....ive seen plenty towed out. The XP's problems were an issue, but once the updates were done they (at least the ones i saw) they ran great!

the cats ive personally ridden, seem low on power and bog, bad. I have not directly compared the two sleds in the exact same conditions, but i got to ride a 07 800 doo and a 09 M8....i still think the doo had more power....

oh yeah

My rmk would plow over the trees i find myself wrestling with. My cat threw me right off in our first tree incident, and the saw came out.

Love the choices

Guys and gals, look at the choices we have today! When the manufactures are scratching and clawing trying to be the sled to beat we win. I see it as the glory days of muscle cars circa late 60's. Hell we all win! What's have the domestic car manufactures done exciting lately:D There isn't anyone here on this forum that didn't make money than Ford Motor Company last year. I just bought a 08 800 Summit X with a bunch of upgrades after a lot of research. Bottom line...I'm not sure I could have gone wrong with a new M8. I just saw the value in buying a sled that has all the bugs worked out and has the right mods already.

Do the DOO

Love them doo's:D Why is this friggin smiley cat colored???

Ok just to try make the situation better i heard from a dealer that the performance shop here had been doing dyno tests on all the 09 800's,the guy who is doing them i would not trust anyways, the numbers were just what i heard from the dealer and it wasn't a doo dealer sorry. Here are the numbers i got from the January edition of american snowmobiler magazine and would believe before the shop here, 09 d8 147.1 hp @8000 rpm, the 800r powerplant 155hp @8100 rpm,and the cat 800 143.7hp@7700rpm looks like the doo takes it when tuned good.I still really like my m8 and don't regret buying it at all and with a few minor mods i will pull better numbers easily.

Just ride what you can handle and no more or the sled will ride you and it does not matter how much hp you have.

Rode with cats new m1000 162 this weekend, not even a close comparison to last year that sled rocks. He was able to keep up with my xp, thats a first for a cat around these parts. The snow was 4 feet of fresh powder, the guy who had the cat was a dealer and he had a bunch of buddies on last years sleds and man could you tell the old from the new. WAY TO GO CAT IT IS ABOUT TIME!!!!

lets all ride XP's.....that will be so much fun!!!

EDIT

Or maybe not!!! Because it sounds like I will become a A$$HOLE after I get one!!!

Got a question....what if you took 30lbs off the Cat and evened up the Hp to that of the Doo???? Still think the Doo would outclimb the Cat?? Or do anything better than the Cat??
There is alot to be said for efficiency and chassis/suspension geometry. I think it would be a little more important than a measily 5 or 8 hp. That is where Cat has it over Doo IMO.

If you answere the initial question in this post honestly to yourself...I think we all know the answere.

Just stirring it up a bit:D

SPDFREEK.

Ya, the cats front end is stronger, on my m7 when I hit a stump I would bend a arms, trip to the store and an hour later I was in the snow. The xp is a different story but I understand the price for parts is the same now, it is the labor to fix it that takes a while longer.

If the Chris Berandt edition holds up good this year I can see me having one of them next year, just something appealing about a turbo w/ a warranty on a 2-stroke. And I know the new powder claw track is sweet.

Slick you still know how to get me to waste my time, and just so I can say it wasn't a total waste I have to add something to this WORTHLESS thread.... They may all show close numbers on the dyno but the Doo 800's have more low end torque, I've ridden all three like the XP the best because the other two keep tipping over and I fall off :D

And to all of you that don't want to be gay and ride a Cat there's that old saying
"HOW DO YOU KNOW YOU WON'T LIKE IT UNTIL YOU TRY IT ONCE" :face-icon-small-ton:face-icon-small-ton

Now I feel like my time has been worth it.

Who really cares? This is an argument that will never be agreed on by everyone. Sounds like cat made some good improvements this year. If it's better than the XP then BRP is going to have to get back to the drawing boards to keep their sales up, and vice versa. Aren't we all winning because of this?

Anybody that is looking to buy a new sled cares! Some people do not have any way to get knowledge other than the dealer and most of them couldn't ride a sled, let alone tell you about it. They just want to make a sell.

I could ride a cat this year if it had a boondocker turbo and I am a skidoo guy. I have 06 & 07 revs. I havn't gotten used to the xp when I rode one. The polaris is different than what I am used to. They are all good. None of them will run with my two revs stock out of the box. I couldn't tell on the 09 polaris on how it run. The snow was deep and we were in the trees. It was always stuck but it looked like pilot error to me.
For those of you that don't think the xp's run you're crazy. My buddies t-xp kept up with my turbo nytro all the way out of the mountains. Oh that's right he was on a rope.
