Knowing what you know RIGHT NOW, what would you do?

I had 2011 pro no problems, traded for a 13 pro and don't expect any problems. the only problem I have had since I got rid of my edge and dragon has been the problems caused by the permagrin while riding my pro.:bounce:

AA, I agree that few have been out riding much, but what little miles have been put on the '13's are starting to show the issues are valid. I have 2 friends that ruined drive shafts on Saturday. I'm not trying to convince anybody of anything, just what I have seen personally.

Latest Comedy

I think it's funny all these dudes from New Hampshire or Bumfhuk lake Minnesota talking about all the problems of the 2013 in 2in of frost, seriously if your worried call RKT I'm sure he has a fix for whatever your issue is, itchy bum, leaky faucet, viper piss etc. I havn't been on snowest for years due to all the modular helmet fairy's whining all the time, geez. Now I remember why I havn't been on here for awhile.

I think what Matte is feeling is somewhat normal. I feel like I'm in basically the same basket with my proclimb. There have been reports of zero issues... and there have been reports of major issues. And until a guy gets his OWN PERSONAL sled on the snow you really don't know what you've got.

That said I think if a guy hadn't bought one yet I would advise waiting a few more weeks and see what shakes out. But in both of our situations we just have to wait for the flakes to fly and hope for the best.

I'll tell you what, if I had a '13 (I Have a '12), I would probably sell it, along with all my gear. Probably sell my pickup too, then lay in the fetal position crying and sucking my thumb.

C'mon you sissies. Put on the big girl panties, step away from the keyboard, wait for the snow to fall and ride the heck out of your sled. If it breaks, fix it. If it rips, forget about it.

After all, there isn't an issue popping up now that naysayers weren't talking about last spring. Belt drive with no idler, glued driveshaft. Plenty of people were being negative about these things last spring, and you didn't listen then to the concern and spring ordered a sled anyhow, just to have the latest and greatest. Now there are failures and you're listening to anybody who says anything negative about the sled you had to have?

I really am a nice guy, I'm just tired of the doomsday freakout.

Hello . This is my first time to reply on the forum. Im in the process of tradeing in my 2010 assault for a 2013 rmk pro 155 800 and Im starting to feel like its a bad idea. All machines have there issues but when it comes to looseing your abilty to stop your machine from a broken driveshaft or belt vs a motor blowing.. .. wow... I no there is night and day difference between the two machines but its still hard decide when there is an issue like this with a new product.. My Assault has been perfect so far but I like the tech side of the new pro, what a cool sled.. I hope luck keeps up and the new pro is the same..

Couple things I see popping up. One, I am asking questions. I am neither a sled expert or great mechanic so I just want info. It would be great if people could focus on the issue rather than insult people. BGYDOP1 is it really necessary to insult a whole state full of people for any reason? Is that how you talk to people face to face? Also, guys saying that the problem is "blown out of proportion". Most of the failures are from people on break in rides and road runs. A drive shaft should not fail, ever in that type of use. A driveshaft should be a part of the sled you NEVER think about. Last, read my post. Not "freaking out", no "crying". I have a plan, run it and see what happens. If it works great, if not put the steel driveshaft in. It would be really nice to hear something from Polaris. Even if they don't know what the root problem is at least let us know what their plan is and that they are going to take care of their customers.

NEWS FLASH FROM POLARIS INDUSTRIES: We are aware that in some cases the driveshafts and belts are failing. We are actively engaged in finding both the cause and solution to these failures. Rest assured that Polaris Industries values their customers and their loyalty to our brand and we will figure this out and make sure our customers loyalty and pride is not misplaced. Instead we get crickets...

Dop1, nice post and just keep eating the yellow snow my friend and if you run out of it just let me know and I will happily ship you some new lemon to pour into the fresh snow.

It is funny that you think all of us guys from NH & MN are the funny ones when you call yourself BGYDOP1. LOL.

If we all believed what we read on the internet concerning sled problems, none of us would ever buy a sled.

Matte Murder, sell that POS now while you still have a chance! Better yet, I will trade you even up for my 2012 Pro RMK 800 155 with only 296 miles on it, it even has the shorty 2013 seat on it. I mean heck, the damn a-arms are going to let go from the spindles on that 2013 any minute now!

snowassault
if you can get the pro you'll have warranty and it is "night and day difference"
the fun factor goes through the roof with the pro
welcome to the forums
ps we're all crazy here !:face-icon-small-hap

matt
i hear your concerns but the real question i think is
Do you have a good dealer?
they should be there if problems arise and have the parts you need
i still think its to soon to tell on the 13 line
i do know that the pro (love it or hate it) is the bench mark and ski doo and artic cat will be looking to bringing their sleds to that mark or past it
i mean look at what they did this year i seriously doubt they won't adress the weight and chassis enhancements look back at what the rev started in 04

I had zero problems with my 2012 800 Pro after 846 miles. I sold it and will pick up my 2013 model in a few days and I have no reservations at all, especially since the new model has updated cylinders. If Carl's Cycles isn't afraid of selling new 800's with installed turbos or their 910 kit, I'm not one bit afraid of riding my stock sled. In fact, I am really looking forward to the first good snow!

Answer Yes. Your thread title sounds like something from Readers Digest or Good Housekeeping. "Knowing what you know RIGHT NOW, what would you do"? Realistically the majority of Pro Bro's have not seen this break, but due to a random set of PICS floating around it seemed to turn people into Va J J's. normal ops on forums-to be expected!

Knowing what I know would I do it again -- YES. I actually got to ride a '13 last spring, & in 10 seconds seat time i was sold. Till it snows here, that's all I know.

The info on here is great, but i take everying i read with a grain of salt. I will prob buy rkt fix for $80 just to be on the safe side. I do think Polaris will fix it if its a prob.

I'm also a guy that bought Rev-Xp in 2008 & listened to all the negative hype. It was an awesome sled for what was out there at the time. I would do it again in a heart beat.

The argument of taking the $2500 it cost u to upgrade to a new 2013 & spend $2500 in upgrades on my 2012 pro doesn't work for me. Used with upgrades is NOT new. Definitely not in resale, & not in overall performance (IMO) either.

Ck with me in Jan when I've had real seat time & we'll see then, but I don't expect my answer to change.

Buying new sled tech is always a roll of the dice, you can be a genius, hero, or goat.

New performance sled buyers are big time passionate about riding - the OEM's know it. OEM's have a limited season to test in NA (unlike every other motorsport on the planet). OEM's compete for sales based on today's perceived performance, not yesterday's. Add up those three little factoids, and bad $hyt is occasionally going to happen en mass. Only in the sled biz can you overhype a Storm (pick one), ConFusion (05-06), Powder Special (pick one), Firecat (03), Proclimb M (12), Rev (03), Summit XP (08), Exciter (88), Mountain Phazer (pick one), etc. And the 08/09 IQ RMK 800. We buy, we try, and sometimes, we fry. The OEM's know if they can land a homerun, they will be forgiven, live another day, and act like they never made a bad sled. And that's the sled biz in nutshell. You've been warned.

There as some guys who bought M's last year that would trade situations with any 13 Pro owner in a heartbeat. All relative. Good luck to all 13 owners. Many will be thrilled. Still lovin my 11, with all the knicks.

This whole forum is the craziest thing anymore. People want lightweight and polaris delivers. Now everyone is worried they are going to fall apart or when doo came with 08 xp and if you hit a pinecone the thing would be totaled.
I've been wanting a belt drive, from the factory, for years. Now everyone is worried about no gaurd, brake on the wrong shaft, packing a spare belt when you never packed a spare chain and oil. Heck, I even heard someone try vandalisim to justify it.
Motor troubles have been blown out of proportion. I admit I sold my turbo pro, which has always ran great, because I wasn't spending $5000 for a new motor on a 2 year old sled. I do believe the motor is suspect but if you read this forum you would wonder why anyone buys anything.
Now were on to driveshaft problems and I would bet 90% havn't even put them on the snow. All you heard last year was how cat motors were seizing left and right. It ended up being minimal at best. They did have belt trouble but I have friends who didn't have any trouble.
Now we even have people buying a fix, that we haven't seen, for a problem that we aren't sure is an epidemic. What happened to warranty or possibly a recall.
Maybe this is why yamaha won't won't build a sled with decent running boards and a few other assorted items that should come standard on a mountain sled. They are worrying about all the bitching. I've had buyers remorse before but this is rediculous.
