Knowing what you know RIGHT NOW, what would you do?

This is for guys who traded in the their perfectly running 2011 or 12 Pro RMKs on 2013 Pros. Knowing what you NOW know would you rather have your old sled back and the extra cash in your pocket or would you rather have your brand spanking new 2013 with not only the sketchy engine and weak tunnel(just like your old sled) but now the possibility of a driveshaft or Quickdrive belt failure? The other option is would you have chosen another sled or brand? Assault, XM or Cat? I am not a worrier, just a complete waste of time. I ordered a 12 drive shaft for a back up. I am going to ride my 13 and go with the odds. LUCKILY I have other stuff to ride if it does fail. This is my last Polaris. They have proven to me that they have systemic problems in their whole company. They are rushing unproven product to the snow and not taking care of their customers when there are problems. I have not had one real problem with my Pro but I feel some kinship with the whole sledding community and hate the way they crap on their customers. Just because it hasn't happened to me YET doesn't make it ok. It is their customer service policy to actively find ways to deny coverage for any reason. Not a company I want to do business with long term.

This is why I kept my 2012 Pro. The sled rocks, so I just did the C3 belt drive, 2013 Seat, WRP Boards and have a KMOD suspension coming. Now I have pretty much a 2013 Sled technology wise and know what I have. This is the best running sled I have ever had, and if I would have traded it on a 2013 I'd be pissed!! Pretty pleased with my decision to keep it so far.

I wouldnt trade my 13 pro for anything and I did trade my 12 in on it, 90% of all the negativity is coming from jealous ski doo and cat guys anyway.. Last, if your not getting any help with warranty or help with your sled sounds to me like you got a crappy dealer!
 
You make decisions based on the info you have at the time. Looking back with new information and thinking "I should have gone the other way" isn't logical or usually productive. Hindsight is 20/20 right? So I looked at what it would cost me to upgrade from the 13 which I figured was about $3000. What I knew I would get for my $3000; seat, belt drive, 17lbs less weight, slightly better track, some more bling(carbon fiber frame parts), better lower A-Arms, brand new sled including a brand new engine. What I might get; more power, engine upgrades that might fix some of the known issues, and maybe a positive surprise of something buried in the sled somewhere. So I went for it. Cost me $2500 in reality. All of the positives are small but added up they were worth it.
Seeing all the issues with belts and drive shaft this early doesn't look good. I don't know if it bad engineering(looks that way) that will effect all the sleds at some point in their life or just bad manufacturing or a combination? Have I bought a Dragon style sled that is going to dog me all the way to resale? Am I one of the lucky ones who will ride it problem free for 1000-1500 miles then upgrade? Or will I have some hicups in an otherwise great season.
So point for the thread was;
1. I wanted to see what guys who did what I did where thinking or doing.
2. Would like for Polaris to know that their decisions are costing them customers.
3. Would like to see Polaris grab this thing by the nutz and fix it. Treat their customers like a valuable commodity. Treat them like they would want to be treated.
4. Help me decide what to do.
As it stands I am in a bad spot. I have several mods I want to do to the Pro. Shocks, skid, Carls Clutching, weight loss, bars, bumpers, bags etc. $1000s of dollars I am not going to spend until this thing shakes out or may never spend if Polaris stays true to form. If I had not paid for my sled in full I would abandon the $500 deposit and just move on.
 
Im so confused by this matte? What is there to worry about? Theres barely any snow and you havent even ridden your 13. Calm down buddy. Your sled is going to be kick ***.

There are guys out there with over 200 miles on their 13s with no issues. I love this forum and it is hands down the most helpful tool for me as a snowmobiler. But sometimes things are blown so out of proportion it is sickening.

You raise some good points, and I'm sure this debockle has troubled many a new sled buyer. But, in all reality, couldn't you take this post and transcribe into any of the manufacturers sections??

Buying new is always a gamble in the sled world, especially when they change things..

Matt, nice reply and I have had some of the same thoughts. So here is my take after several weeks of consideration of possibly making a trade or change. This forum has been one of my best useful tools to find and share information with others in a very positive and helpful way.

No the back side of is forum monster and we are all guilty of this to some degree or another is that when you have one or two flukes it gets every one bent out of shape & worried about what if it happens to me ? Well for me I like to be real proactive so I am not that guy but unfortunately I have caught myself getting caught up into all of the negativity and it may cause some of us to make even more questionable or less informed decisions based on the haters or the few who want to stir the pot to get us all worked up.

Individually we all have to make what we consider the right decision and we have to live with it one way or the other but I believe we have both bought the right sled and if you have the 5 year warranty like I do and a reasonable or good dealer we will all be fine. Stay positive and really I have only heard of a few limited failures from our district Polaris service rep. which will happen with a 1st year sled but even if it becomes more common it is just a small bump in the road.
 
Sooo whats the issue? Some one had some cogs come off a belt and one drive shaft broke? Im friggin pumped to ride my sled, and I have not even had a worry cross my mind!
 
wow the sky is falling. I am not a polaris rider now but used to be. I have one of those fat 1100 turbos. Never saw any problems like some. The friends I ride with never had problems with their 800 pro climbs either. I purchased a new 800 pro climb to go with the turbo but took a seriously look at the pro. I have friends who ride the pro even encouraged friends to buy them. I think what we see is the very few problems over sensationalized until you wonder at your purchase. Will there be problems? maybe but I am sure the will be fixed. I for one can't wait to try out the 13 pro, my friends want to try my pro climb. The best part regardless of the brand is that friends will be together to raz the other one but will ultimately help in getting home. The sleds will get fixed and we will hit the snow again. If anyone feels they should get rid of their 13 pro I will trade you for a slightly heavy 1100 turbo champion hill climber second rate IN MY OPINION tree rider!!:evil:
 
I bought the 2003 Ski-Doo REV MXZX 800 (the original beaver-tail style)
and suffered all of it's First-Production Year failures (Over-oiling, PTO Side Bearing failure due to ISOPAR vs Inj. Oil, MAG failure, Cracking intake boots, etc, etc) plus the poor deep snow performance :face-icon-small-winof my 121" with the trap door Beaver Tail)

I fought through it, fixed all the warranty crap my self and vowed never to do buisness with the local Ski-Doo dealer again.

Then the wife and I decided to buy the first year 2009 Assaults, great idea, because air-schocks!!!!, which failed of course, and it needed new injectors, a new can, new pistons, like four ECM re-flashes...did I forget anything with the '09 800's?
Oh the 90/10 Competition Track, which for anyone but a racer was 10 percent effective 90 percent of the time, or 90 percent effective 10 percent of the time.

I know what the fight and struggle can be about, and I hope that many more don't have to go through it.

And I ask again, as I did on anther post:

I don't ride 4-wheelers, street bikes, MX Bikes, UTV's or watercraft, so I ask others that do;

Has anyone seen thesame amount of mass failures, warranty work, and recalls on any other mode of recreational transport, as we see on sleds every year, from every manufacturer?

Imagine:

Prop-shaft failure on a watercraft going 60 kts towards a marina....

Drivetrain failure on a streetbike doing the speed limit on a crowded highway....

Drivetrain failure on a UTV makign a last ditch attempt cliibing something around Moab.....


Just seems like us sledders are left out to "freeze" compared to other sports.

Please, enlighten me.

"SEEING ALL THE ISSUES WITH THE BELTS AND DRIVESHAFTS" has me confused. I'm not sure anyone has had enough snow to see anything to any degree as of late. I own a '12 which has run flawlessly for 1,700 miles and wish I would have been in a position to own a '13. Everything on this forum gets so ridiculously blown out of proportion it's hard to read anymore. "The Power of Suggestion" is far more powerful than I ever thought possible, I've used it more than a few times in my life to sway opinion my way, but I had no idea it could not only sway, but convince thousands of a failure that has yet to manifest itself.:face-icon-small-con
