Kids learning to sled, any tips?

I am also looking forward to creating a "montser" out of my 12yr old. He gets a 500 Indy with a 1.5 x136 this year.

He has only ridden by himself on the vintage Sno-Jet last year. He learned fast about grabbing too much throttle, thankfully, not getting hurt.

For their size, they must be tought to ride without sitting down. I told my son, the seat is to be sat on when you stop for lunch!!!! They have to use their wieght to help control the sled way more than we do. After a couple of safe cirles around the field, he headed for the snow covered wood pile to catch air. I can only hope his learning is fast and we have a great winter!!!

The tether is a good idea!!!

Yeah those sled's are awsome. i agree with the helment mic and the throttle reducer's Right sure you train them on solid ground and tell them to lean and step on the side's to turn in deep powder! have fun!

Make sure that they have throttle control first. My son was 8 last year and started on a phazer. The biggest problem we ran into is that his hands were too small to grab the brake easily. I am going to try and bend the lever so that it is closer to the grip. I am so excited to have my kids riding with me for many years.

There is nothing more satifying than sitting at the bottom of the hill watching your Kid tear it up. I almost enjoy my trips to the mountains more when i take him along. Next year he will be going on almost every trip. There wasn't to many places he couldn't get to last year. My boy rides a 99 670x but he has logged alot of hours of seat time between dirtbikes and sleds. Started riding his dirt bike just before he turn 4 was riding an xlt when he was 7 so he has a good understanding of how much thrittle he needs. Fun time and proud moments.

Just my experiences. I had a 300 yamaha perfect for kids less than 8. The throttle is a hard pull and it is hard on the kids thumb. Turns out the oil pump is the source of resistance. I disconected the cable and pre-mixed it helped lots.

Other thoughts
1. I also have two phasers the kids run. Too much throttle is not a problem. too little brake is. they can't squeeze hard enough to stop fast so rearending on the trail when the group stops is a problem. The phasers will go anywhere they can handle.

2. Do not try to go into too much powder with two kids your back will die. STuck sucks.
3. I did not use vests but I would now.
4. doing laps in a field is the best way to teach Busy trails are not good for the little kids.

Will sell the yamaha 300
