Kakwa 2009/2010

Went out today, snow was awesome. Lots of fresh but watch out the landmines are still around. I hit a hidden rock and bent my nun.

The trail was alright. Groomed most of the way in and still wasn't too bad even after that.

I ended up headin out Yesterday, too bad the sun wasn't shining like today. Snow is good, trail..not bad compared to usual.

Some slopes are sliding, I slid down on a layer of ice while sidehilling in a couple spots.

The road was good up to the Bowen turnoff, then it was unplowed the rest of the way to Lick creek with only one lane down the middle. About 2ft of snow on the road, easily drivable unless you meet someone coming the other way.

Going out for the whole weekend next week :D

Perfect time to big bore that rev after being in the creek. Took the crank out the next day in wolverine!!!

Come on Big bore it and lets go for a ride!!

sounds good. should be a good trip but i imagine everyone will be out there this weekend. Hows the snow on the hills. I heard there was alot of powder sitting ontop a crust of snow that has been letting go on the side hill riding.
Would like to go up to flattop and up to the glacier.

Planning a trip up there for the 29th-30th. Have connections with a bus parked up in the staging area. Going to hold up there for the night and sled two days. Looking forward to it. :) Hoping the trail is better than last time I was in there.....

Rode in on Friday the 17th. Trail in was in great shape. Snowed very hard all day. Snow was kinda wet and heavy. No visibility to see but still a great day. No trail busted up to Ruth yet. Heard some people were heading into flat top that day but not sure how they did. Hopefully headin up again after xmas.

had a great ride on sat the 18. a little fresh snow, a fairly good trail on the way in but a little rough on the way out. was up at babette, snow starting to set up but still fairly soft. watched quite a few guys stuck on the mountain side. some creeks still open. lake is covered over. planning a trip up on new years.

Went towards ruth on the 18th, no luck so we turned and went over to flat top, wind was blowing hard, some serious hard drifts and a bit of a slide on the first hill. went over the top and decided to head back over to babette, too much wind. A couple small slides in babette as well. Looks like the hoar from the first cold snap we had is causing some problems with the new storm snow. Keep your heads up out there. Saw a few things that made me shake my head just glad everything ended ok. Theres tons of snow out there, use your better judgment and stay away from obvious bad areas, no need for bad news this time of year. rant over. See you out there in the new year.
Merry Xmas

That's not good. I hope it improves in time for our trip up there. It could be my only one this year so I hope it will be good. Was really hoping we wouldn't have to really worry about slides, but good to know it's a bit sketchy out there.

rode yesterday, went into babett, all tracked up and not much fresh, went over to broadview pass and found way better snow in the meadows, trail was good, sunny skies all day and a little chilly in spots but still a good first ride of the year, really good base/snow conditions for this time of year. Noticed some garbage on the road near the airstrip and on the trail, i don't think i need to rant about it since the people that do this aren't able to read anyway.
ride safe. got any pics freddy?:beer;

So had planned to make it in the 29th and 30th. But on our way to gp we heard it was very tracked up and cold. So we turned toward chetwynd instead. Hit up bull moose and beaver creek. Bull moose was very hard, with some softish snow climbing in the hills. But beaver was pretty nice. Maybe next time we will make it to kakwa.

Went to kakwa today and was a little scared on how much snow there would be. A couple inches in the parking lot,at least a foot at the lake with no tracks, got up to babbete and the was not a track to be found with as much as 3 feet in some places,so much powder my new m8 was bogging down.So if anyone is planning a trip for sunday be prepared!
