I-90 Snoqualmie Pass remains closed due to increased avalanche hazard

SNOQUALMIE PASS – At 3:56 a.m. WSDOT Avalanche Control Supervisor Craig Wilbour announced: “Given the current conditions, I do not believe it is safe or prudent to open I-90 Snoqualmie Pass. Given the forecast, I can not predict an opening time.”

The earlier estimate of opening Thursday morning was based on a forecast of cooler temperatures and dry snow accumulations. The overnight snow accumulations have more than double the moisture (water equivalent) predicted and temperatures have risen (currently 31 degrees F). Therefore the avalanche danger has increased instead of decreased.

Additional information will be available at 10 a.m.
