AC/DC changed their tune, their last album sucked. Offspring... when is the last time they had a release?
Metallica has changed but they did it to stay alive. I think this new album is much like their REALLY old stuff. I honestly have liked all of it, some more some less, but that is how it goes. Not too many bands stay around this long.
Also to those that say the Anger is missing, well you can only do drugs and be an alcoholic in and out of rehab for so long before you die. You can't be as old as they are and continue the hard core partying.

So far the new songs I've hears are way better than the last album. Not sure I like the mix though. Lars is pretty proud of those drums and they really stand out too much. I've got 17th row at energy solutions arena in SLC. LONG LIVE METALLICA!!!!

Also feel the same way as Bonz I got hooked on the preblack album stuff at the wood shop. Then tried listening to the new stuff, garbage imo

I have never heard a Metallica song I dont like, each one has it's own special tune and quality, sure I like the older stuff the best, BUT, the new stuff is just that, new, maybe some people dont like it, others do. I have heard some of the new songs off of death magnetic and I love them! Long live "sad but true" and "enter sandman!!!!"

ACDC hasnt changed their tune....... because 90% of their songs are the exact same song with different lyrics. I'de still go see them live though. They originated the idea, Nickelback just got caught with it.
Too bad its not '91, then Metallica would be worth seeing. I've tried to like the new stuff but its just too much. It sounds like they set out to make the greatest song in the world. It just doesnt work for me. Diggin' the new Slipknot and Opeth though

It was all over for metallica after the black album. the napster thing was the final nail in the coffin. they will never be cool again. bands like slipknot, opeth, meshuggah (sp) are the guys now progressing things. lots of good stuff on sirius 28. Metallica just can't cut it anymore,... ya they will sell records but so does Bon Jovi

Gotta disagree with you here man. Slipknot has a LOT of musicianship involved, from Jim Root and Mick Thomson's guitar playing to Joey Jordison's downright insanely technical drumming. I dunno about you but the intensity of the songs are increased a lot when there is anger behind the vocals.
Back on track, Metallica is good stuff as far as I'm concerned. For those that say they've lost it. Guess what? Theyre not 23 years old anymore, people change. Progression is a big thing rather than staying in a rut all the time.
