local station has been playing the new song religiously, sorry, can't get on board with this 'new' metallica... their last real album was Justice... they shoulda stuck with what they had goin instead of going mainstream... i saw 'em in concert twice while Cliff was still around, this isn't meatllica anymore... sorry, hope you have fun, but I'm disappointed with 'em
Ive seen every tour including Kill Em All at the UW ball room in 85 and respectivly dissagree with you. Yes the last album was a total piece of crap but go their web site and check out the new video and the 3 full lenght songs. THEY ARE BACK BIGTIME! If you don't like the new stuff then YOUR taste has changed not theirs.

nope, sorry my taste hasn't changed at all, they went mainstream, the old stuff was pissed off and you could ~feel~ the anger and angst with which it was written, even now... after they had mtv success with 'One' it has been weak after weak... for proof I give you 'nothing else matters'... WEAK AZZ SH!T... but it did well on the charts right?? load and reload each had maybe 1-2 songs that were up to par, st anger sucked balls, the production quality of the new album is roughly the same as st anger... you wanna buy into that fine, be my guest, I have no doubt that the people fawning over this new album just have metallica on the brain and that they can do no wrong... but from the one song i've heard so far, no thanks... the song wastes about 4.5 minutes getting to a 2 minute portion that rocks... listening to the begining I sit there and got "WTF???" and keep waiting and waiting for what seems like an eternity for them to actually start playing... when james quits singing the song finally takes off a bit... same old metallica??? BULLCHIT!!!!

OK, I just dissagree with you, but as you just proved you heven't even listened to any thing but the radio song and only part of it. Go to the Metallica.com and give it a listen and check out the video. If you still don't like it than they have evolved beyond your tast.

Sweet that you got tickets. I agree that I don't like much of the "newer" stuff after And Justice For All, but it isn't like they don't play their old songs at a concert-you're still gonna get to hear some of their best stuff. This new album sounds way better than Saint Anger (that was some of the worst crap I ever heard). As for myself, I'm waiting for the AC/DC tour then I'm gonna blow my hard earned cash on that one. ACDC is playing the night before Metallica here in Seattle, it's going to be a 48 hour party old school. Damn I'm 40 this month, will I make it??
didn't say I didn't WANT them to evolve, I just don't like the mainstream direction they've taken over the past 10-15yrs... the music they have largely put out has lost the edginess that it has had in the past... the anger is missing, they've mellowed somewhat... maybe some of the latest albums other tracks will win me back, but usually if it is a strong album they will release a strong song up front to get people on board with it... i won't purchase the album til i hear more from it... the black album was the last metallica album i purchased... I just miss the pissed-off stuff like leper messiah, trapped under ice, fight fire with fire, creeping death, and even the instumentals like call of ktulu and orion which i thought were masterful still had a pissy edge to 'em... I wouldn't want them to go backwards, taht's for sure... i'd just like to see more of the not-so-radio-friendly epic 8-10-12 minute songs...
ACDC is the one concert I can't miss when they come around next... one of the few bands I ~need~ to add to my list... been a fan of them since I was in 6th grade back in the 70's (ya, i hit 40 in a couple months myself)...
I hear you totally but thats why I'm so happy with the new stuff, seriously check it out and get back to me on Metallica.com. The anger is back and the shortest song is 6 and a half min and all the rest are over 8 min. If you dont like it it's cool but if you havent seen them live you should go. They know whats crap and stay away from it live.
