Just Need to Get it all out

Hello every body I wanted to just get a bunch of stuff off my chest. today has been a pretty crappy day I got my 06 dodge reposed today it was my dream truck I have had it for a little over a year. All around life has been pretty crappy for the last year finacially anyway Last feb i went out of business after ten years of running my own construction business my fault to0 I got to far out on some contracts and did not riegn them in when i should have and ended up not getting paid for about 400,000.00 worth of work that ii completed so i had no choice except to shut it down. I then have been trying to start several other businesses since and have had no success and have used all my money up all my retirement and everything just trying to stay a float I even sold all my toys and equipment to make ends meet and when everthing went to hell just before thanks giving I tried to just find a job to at least get some money coming in and here I am 2 months later and still no job and the bills keep piling up and tomarrow I am getting Audited by the IRS and it just keeps getting worse. The good news is my wife just had a baby boy last week . Which is freaken awsome becouse i have a 4 and 2 year old daughters and now I have a son which is excatly what we wanted. I am just venting guys I really dont have anybody to talk to about my fiancial problems and my wife has a enough to worry about with the new baby. I dont want any simpathy I got myself into this situation and I can get myself out I guess I am asking more for Ideas. or if somebody has gone through something simalar what you did to keep a positive attitude to get through it.

Thanks

The best advice I could give is to do what is best for your family, you sound like you are on that track so all I can say is keep your head up. Look at baby boy that will make you forget about your problems. It does for me.

Keeping the right attitude is key.
If the attitude goes south, good things are not likely coming your way.

The money is gone. You can't control that, so don't dwell on it.
Look at the things that you can control.
Most importantly- your family. You are still the hero in their eyes.
Don't screw that up.
Your health-Regular workouts are an excellent way to release some pent up frustration and will also make you feel good about yourself.
Avoid booze-Alcohol is a depressant, not really what you need these days.

And if you need to get some counseling, do it. There is nothing wrong at all with addressing mental health issues.

Good luck.

Learn from the past and look forward to the future. You have health, love and family. Keep your head up and life always gets better.

.... 3 years ago I had my place in west yellowstone paid for, my truck paid for, A time share in Cabo,(right on the marina), takin' two trips a year to the baja marlin fishin'. & had a marlin trip to Guatemala in me also. I drank it away dewd.:(.. I don't have a pot to piss in or a window to throw it out of right now. Attitude is everything. Ya just gotta keep yer head up.. It's hard & it sucks! & I've had two trucks repoed in my life, so I know the feelings you got. I also know I'll get it all back!:D:cool:;).. It's an old cliche but... "It ain't how many time you fall down, it's how many time you get back up"

I got way caught up in the "I have money to burn" thing.
Got WAY over extended, lost my buisness the works. Went from a fully tricked out 79 Z to a 1970 VW bug with zero heat and it only ran on 3 cylinders (ugly azzed orange color).

My best advice, dump every bill you possibly can. If you have cable, got back to an arial. Cut every corner you can.

Then concentrate on one bill at a time. Take the shortest one and throw everything you can at it till it is paid off. Then take the money your were paying on that bill, add it to another bill and pay it off as fast as possible. If you can get it going, you can pay off bills pretty quick.

It took me 3 years to get my feet back under me.
Now, I only have one major bill. My house. Everything else is paid off.

It can (and will) take years to fully recover. Don't let it get you down and what ever you do, don't panic and don't take it out on the family.
It sucks when it happens, but, pick yourself up, dust yourself off and simply move on.
Positive things happen to people with positive attitudes.

Like he said,
it will likely take years, but you have your whole life!!!

Many people would gladly trade their worldly goods just for children, or health.

live within your means, seems everyone now adays wants to own the biggest house on the hill with the brand new car and truck in the driveway. when my wife and i started out 18 years ago we bought a $80,000 house instead of a $200,000 house like everyone else. paid that off in 12 years and are now getting ready to put a new house on the land. always figured if i'm buying something on credit if i can't afford to put 25%down i can't afford to buy it. glad to hear you are taking responsibility for your situation, seems thats the most important part of this very hard lesson to learn...

400K - WOW! You must have been good at sales to get into a position like that. Do what you did before you lost it all. Sounds like you had all your turds in a pile once.

Make a good list of your personal assets (not what you own but your skills) - figure out what you are good at and find the need you can fill. Start from ground zero, roll up your sleeves and get 'r done.

Better days are ahead - only one way to go from where you are at and you are in control.

Family is always #1, you have that. Obviously you were smart enough to make that money at one point. You'll do it again and learn from your mistakes. Been through it contracting, it's the hardest business to be in, you rely on so many other people and factors beyond your control. You can be so honest and reliable and just get screwed! You did it once, you'll do it again, just stay focused like you did when you first started and it will work out in the end! That is what makes us self-employed guys different, we take the risks and suck it up good or bad.
