June 26 - Bald Mtn tragedy

Our lives are wrought with unfortunate, and sometimes untimely, tragedy and accidents, which this is an obvious example. Love big, give of yourself generously, enjoy each day and live happy! My sig. line is one of my mottos.

God bless his family, friends, and all who mourn! :brokenheart:

Bald Mountain Accident 6/26/11

I was there. I am actually in your pictures posted. All riders in this group are friends of mine. There were 6 who went up. 5 of the 6 riders went home safe and not injured. Our dear friend Mark (51) years old, did not survive the incident. There were up on the North side of Kamas Lake. All riders in this group were skilled riders. The short story is that Mark lost a right to left sidehill above a outcropping/cliff of rocks and while trying to cut away from the area (and almost had it) hit a rock beneath the snow which deflected him straight at and over the cliff. He did not survive the fall.
Was kind of a fluke deal that my wife and I were up there. We were up for a ride with our mom & dad (old guy in red caddy). Any other day and I would have been riding with them but hurt my back this March coming off a cornice which ended my season. Knew they were up there riding and the events that followed these last 24 hours have been nothing short of Hell. Mark was the guy everybody wanted for their friend. a true "shirt of their back" kind of guy. He and his wife our best friends and absolutely nothing will be the same..... Our hearts break.

So nice to read all the kind words you have all posted. Wish all of you the best and safest of rides in your future.

One more thing...my heartfelt thanks to the DNR as well as S&R. They were all very considerate and kind....and in all honesty, went above and beyond. My thanks.

Gregg.

So so sad to hear about this.

Cherish every day you have on this earth with your family and friends.

Heart goes out to the family and friends.

I hope everyone involved can grieve and keep moving onward and upward. He is in Gods hands now.

So sad to hear, as I sit here with tears in my eye's. Life is fragile and short, be sure to hug your loved ones daily. Thought and prayers go out to you and yours.
