Island Park Snow Conditions (21-22 season)

The GNFAC has issued a BACKCOUNTRY AVALANCHE WARNING for the CENTENNIAL MOUNTAINS near Island Park, ID where the danger is rated HIGH on all slopes. Natural and human-triggered avalanches are very likely. Stay off of steep slopes and stay away from the bottom of steep slopes.

Got to www.mtavalanche.com/forecast for more information.

Steady snowfall in the Southern Gallatin and Southern Madison and Lionhead area delivered 20” since Saturday. With strong winds and significant snowfall on tap for today, dangerous avalanche conditions exist on all slopes. The avalanche danger is rated CONSIDERABLE and human-triggered avalanches are likely. Careful snowpack evaluation, cautious route-finding, and conservative decision-making are essential.

The mountains around Cooke City have received 14” since Saturday with a grand total of 1” in the mountains around Bozeman and Big Sky. Avoid wind-loaded slopes and dig down to assess whether the weak layers deeper in the snowpack are nearing their breaking point as today’s snow adds weight and stress to the snowpack. The avalanche danger is MODERATE on wind-loaded slopes and LOW on all others.

Once again, The BLACK BEAR station is OFFLINE.
This time I think because there was just too much snow on the sensors.
I think these numbers are SHY of reality based on first hand observation yesterday.
