Is There Snow in the Snowies - CK This Out

So a lot of people have been wondering if there is snow in the Snowies. I just returned from sledding there December 13, 14, 15, and 16. I can tell you that there is plenty of snow to ride. There is definitely more snow on the west side, which is where we spent most of our time. Yes, you need to be careful to watch out for rocks and stumps that are just below the surface. But, we found 4 to 6 feet of powder all over the place. Some areas we found even more. Avoid the wind blown areas, as they are mine fields. But, get into the meadows out of the wind and in the trees and you will find plenty to keep everyone happy. We even found snow in steep areas for those that want to hill climb as well. Five sleds for four days and we left without damage to our sleds.

During our stay the area received 1 to 2 feet of snow, depending on where you were. More snow is forecast for the rest of the week, which will make for great riding in even more places.

Couple words of advise. You can find snow next to the trail, but to get to the good stuff you need to venture out and work a little (okay, sometimes a little more than a little). You will be rewarded. Explore carefully at first to test an area. The snow conditions are variable right now.

Check out the attached pictures for a peek of what you can expect.

Thanks to Connie and the crew at Snowy Mountain Lodge. We had another great stay and look forward to our next trip!:D

No, you are wrong.
There is no snow at the snowies.
Everyone should stay home or go to Cooke.
It is sunny and warm and there is no snow.

(nice pics. ;))

Me and a buddy will be there this weekend, coming out from MN. Look for an 09 M8 snopro and a white m series behind a black dmax. We'll be hungover on saturday morning though so keep the noise down.

when you going down mezz250 me and buddy of mine will be down there this weekend from the blackhills area shoot me a pm maybe we could ride

We'll be up there all day tomorrow, I'll let you know what we run into... Went up all ready 2 weeks ago and even found some good powder then, can't wait to see what these last few storms have laid down.

Well, then maybe this is better. As you can see in this panoramic shot, there is no snow (or hills to climb).

Very nice shot. My entire concept of what it's like to ride in the snowy's seems to be changing almost daily. I'm used to the W. Yellowstone/Island Park area with the abundance of trees and pictures like this shows it to be vastly different. Wow! My first trip to the Snowy's can not come soon enough. Save me some snow for early March, I'll be there for over a week soaking it all up with a smile on my face the entire time. :D

It's going to be cold, probably will snow, the sun will set but don't worry it will rise again.:D

And I thought someone would have said 75 and sunny forcast for this weekend and the snow will be gone by the 28th:D:beer;

I was out there with lookin4snow, Every thing he said is untrue, those pics were from last year in Revy. There is no snow in the Snowy's;-)))
jk
Those aren't even the good pics, don't hold bac Kris, show em!!

So here are a few more teaser photos of our ride. Check out where Scott is standing next to his sled - it looks like he is sitting in the snow but he was standing. Also check the panoramic shot. We climbed up there to get a feel for the terrain and then scout out additional meadows to find. "Chads" has the big air. We had an awesome time. We'll have to do it again Chad.
