Is the Demise of the US inevitable?

the sky is falling the sky is falling.

we where in these same shoes in 99,00,01.

we will be in a downturn again. the only difference is we have snowest to allow all the doom and gloomers to talk to each other. We go thru a downturn every 8 to 10 years. so yes history will repeat itself. lol

Twice now you've refrenced "Romans" and "Egyptians"
It's misleading because "Romans" are a people, not a government. "Romans" as a people had many many different governments, same with "Egyptians", China, Japan.

Most of the people and countries referred to had governments lasting as long as a single generation before it was taken over again. The Roman senate did last quite ahwile but it was never the single source for government power, its power varied greatly throughout its history always fighting for power with the latest army leader/s.

I agree...but I was responding to switchbacks statement that no CIVILIZATION had lasted longer than 200 years...MANY civilizations have lasted much longer.

The Roman gov't of an Emperer (president) and Senate (house of reps) could be looked at as a pre-curser of the English gov't (King/Queen, House of Lords, and House of Commons), which is the basis for our gov't.

The point again is that this is just a cycle. In fact, you could say it is a form of revolution...the markets are revolting against the overexuberance of the profiteers. And MANY banks are now out of business and executives are out of jobs as a result.

Mod, I'm not referring to a market downturn and financial crisis. BTW, the original post material was info I pulled doing a little surfing. It goes deeper than that. Politcal corruption. Subtle shifting of international power on an economic basis. Lack of federal direction. Do you think our current and prospective leaders actually have a plan to take us into the future on a positive path?

Here in MN one of our senators who was an atty took a trip to Iraq last year. For what? Did the troops go "OMG! Amy's here! Things are under control now." Doubtful. She took that trip on taxpayers dollars to further her career.

What is your response to everyone holding their hands out for money and immigration? Where in the world can illegals (collecting federal funds) protest other than here? What country can I go to and start a biz and run tax free for 7 yrs and then transfer it to a family member for another shelter for 7 yrs? Those are the issues that bother me.

I'm not trying to say as a country we dont have issues...but unless you're willing to get involved in politics, then your only choice is to vote and learn to work with the rules the system gives you...I'm more than happy to take advantage of the tax advantages of being a business owner...

As for the welfare system, I agree it should be completely overhauled and taken back to its original intent...a stopgap to help folks get back on their feet. Dont want to work, no free meal.

But, I'm not in politics, and unfortunately live in a very left leaning state...WA electoral votes will ALWAYS go democrat. So, I live with the system and try to use it to my advantage.

Over the course of time, there is always an ebb and flow of power in the world...We have been on top for a long time and will continue to be for a long time still...but its true the gap is closing...the availability of information makes it inevitable. Countries like Russia and China and India are too large to stay opressed forever...the masses have become aware of the western way of life and they want a piece, and good for them (our founding fathers wanted the same thing). And if it means we have to adjust our way of doing things, then so be it.

I just refuse to sit around a complain about how bad things are when in reality they aren't that bad.

Yep, I agree with all you said. I'm not complaining as I see it could be taken that way. I am frustrated with it and would like to do something to make changes no matter how minor they are. You & I both know that would be almost impossible unless I had a family political name. I guess just discussing it with others generates awareness or keeps it alive and it that aspect at least I'm trying to do something. Know what I mean?

agreed with you there

I see the problem is the US is still trying to control the world economy, and stretched itself too thin. We need to roll back NAFTA and quit having thoughts of the WTO and NAU. Eventually it will come but for now we gotta close the borders and get peeps here legally. But first we gotta employ our own. We need citizenship rights, if a US citizen wants a job they get priority over a non-immigrant worker.

We need to roll up our sleeves and pay our debt, get energy dependant and lead the way towards responsible modernism.
