Is it worth a possible divorce?!?

Alright boys and girls. So, I bought a 2008 Dragon 700 163" last year. Love the sled. I put a Carl's custom clutch set up, dropped the gearing to 19/42, put the '09/'10 front end on it after crashing, fire n ice vents, and an SLP pipe and can on it.

I haven't ridden a pro yet but everyone I've talked said the difference is like going from the edge to the IQ. Well I have a local Pro for sale here and the oppurtunity to purchase it but MY WIFE IS PISSED that I even brought it up. She didn't tell me I couldn't buy it but she is... well... I don't think she'd really divorce me but she said I could stay at my brother's house for a bit if I buy the sled.

Is it worth it?

I just told my wife that I'm getting a new Pro after my 5 weeks straight 12 hours/ day stint in Elko. She told me she gets a new Yukon XL 1st. F*&K, that's not a fair deal.

You might as well buy the pro and sell the IQ...cause once you ride the pro..you wont ride the IQ again anyways....so just tell her you are taking it to the dealer for a little pre season lookover and just bring the pro back ..she will never notice....I had a pretty nice dragon, checked a pro for the daughter...her work hours changed right at the start of last season to where she couldnt get time to ride..so I took her pro out to break it in for her....2 weeks later I sold my dragon(never even fired it up for the season till the day the guy came to look at it)...still riding the pro...it is that good which is why all you hear is guys bashing it in the cat and doo sections....they can say what they want..but just go watch some random vids of mountain riding..all the pro guys will have perma grins all the time..they are just that fun/good for a stock sled....

i just buy mine and then put them in the shop, when the little woman sees a new addition and starts to whine i just ask her who pays the bills... and let her know when she's ready to start paying some of them then i'll listen!!! does it piss her off, sure does. after 21 years of marriage its kind of a nice little vaction while she's not talking to me:) plus gives me that extra time to spend with my new toy!!!

You can ride the Pro when ever you want. Enough said.

Actually, the Pro is worth some strife in your life. It's that much better than the IQ. Just do it while she's at her sister's or mom's house and make sure it's the same color. She'll never really notice the difference.

tell her if you can spend as much on the sled as the yukon its a deal

Numb nutz, pay attention, no one in the cat section is bashing how good the pro is and how well it handles, BECAUSE IT HANDLES GREAT, there is just fear of the engine. There are enough reports already out the engine is still not up to par compared to the cat, thats proven. For some of use that void the warranty with mods as soon as we can the poo 800 is something to worry about, for you that ride stockers its a bad azz sled and the only worry is you might loose a ride or two when, I mean if it goes down so have at it, if I had to $$$ I would love to have one for the gf or loner or to ride when riding with other NA riders. IMO Best stock sled for 2011 (when its running), anyone that says different doesn't know how to ride, Is that good enough for you. If I didn't worry about the engine I would take a pro over them all and would take a m8, prob even take a xp over a dragon. I'm not saying some wont go forever but I have always been the guy that finds the weak spots and seeing one loose a crank at 2k and 700 miles later one brand new engine it dropped a piston skirt, its a bone stock pro, I have to worry a little.

Some of us don't need to watch vids, we would rather do the riding

I have been setting back here for days reading this Polaris bashing (really PRO envy) and have read enough. Here is my experience. I have owned one Cat one Skidoo, 3 (soon to be 4) Polaris sleds. I ride with mainly Polaris riders. Everything from their wives on an older Indy to IQ's, and Edge chassis. Most have the DREADED 800 engine. I work on sleds out of my shop (part time). I personally have never had a sled (when I sold it) that didn't have many thousands of hard miles on it and NOT one engine failure! Not on any of the brands I have owned or the sleds my friends own or have owned. I did however have a 800 Summit in my shop with a blown top end last winter. I had one Polaris 700 with a leaking head O-ring (closest thing I could come up with to an engine failure). The Cats I have worked on are basically good sleds, but a pain in the butt to work on compared to a Polaris. Bottom line.... believe what you read on this site if you wish, but this is my real world experience. Take care of them and ride them and quit trying to mislead people!

If your wife reads this thread you may have a divorce anyway. Just make sure its the same color she will never know

Hey joshua335 thanks for the bad rep because I called a guy out for false information, and I stated the pro is a kick azz sled.

Summer talk is great entertainment, haha

Not sure about your situation but i would not put a toy before my wife. But thats me ,maybe your relationship with your spouse is not so good and thats why your cinsidering this against her wishes. In the end it's your call but you should try to work it out with her for the better. If your just going to do what ever you want no matter what she says your done any way.Thats my thought on the subject (Remember you asked)

I'm not the type to post bad rep but I can see why. Every thread you have here in the Po section reads, "the Pro is great (while it is running)". And then you go on to prove that the AC is better and there are concerns about the Pro motor. There were concerns about the CFI4 but those of us with the CFI2 have been trucking right along. I know...you AC guys won't be happy until we put on 6,000 miles right?

obviously by the tone of the beginning of the thread a lot of it was all in fun and not being completely serious. I even said that I decided I would be keeping my IQ for another year. If I didn't care what my wife thought I wouldn't even have brought it up to her. There would be a nice shiny new Pro in my shop. :)

If you ask me she does have it pretty good though. She gets to stay home with our son, 1 1/2 year old (who's a rad kid) and never has to go work on people's cars all day in the middle of summer. I even do all the laundry and dishes and cook dinner for her a lot of the time. She's spoiled:)

Rob > I don't think she'll come to McCall with me. I took her one time on a gorgeous sunny day with the new sled I bought for her and all the best riding gear and she said "Well it was nice but I don't like it.." ha ha.. I said "oh shucks" but honestly it's perfectly alright with me if she doesn't want to ride. Costs me way less money, way less getting unstuck, way less trail riding, way less "I'm cold, can we go home now?"

I'll be there for sure though!

And you skip right past the part of me saying its a great sled, just the engine is not worthy. As for the post I was responding to the guy saying we where bashing the pro, which we are not, we bash the poo engine. Wouldn't have came up if not for him. You get 19 out of 20 stockers with 3000miles that still have the factory crank and pistons in good condition then I will say not bad, I think that is reasonable.

All in good fun, it is summer

Funny how so many people can't separate serious versus light hearted humor. Sometimes if feels like we are the stand up comedians at a tax convention filled with accountants and IRS employees! (that was a joke there fella's..ha ha JOKE?:becky:)

I hear you and no doubt sledding is not for everyone. Fun is the number one priority irregardless of what you endeavor to do. We'll have fun!

but you called him numb nutz. i would have taken offense also if i didn't know you. (i'm guessing you've never met b/c you live in wyoming and he lives in alaska) it just comes across as being a dick on the internet regardless if you intended too or not. without facial clues and voice inflection you have to be VERY careful how you word things to get the correct point and intention across. (trust me i've learned this the hard way multiple times...) and yes, we all get it, you like the chassis but have read about some motor failures and seen one go down. you don't think the motor is up to snuff. great. but please don't hesitate to tell everyone in almost every single one of your post how BA your new cat is, well at least that is what you read on the internet anyway... (see what i mean about wording things on the internet? you can almost hear my sarcasm in that last sentence...:) )

enjoy

I could have taken offense to his false statement just as easy. I made a joke of it instead, and corrected him, for those that want to take offense, well some will, I know I'm asking for it. if I where pi$$ed about it I would have started making false statements the same way others do and ask if they wanted to meet at the swing sets to see whos dad was going to wip who's azz.

The failures I know of are not just ones I read about, its coming from people I know and trust, and like I said some in other area's haven't seen any problems.

When someone continual calls me out or states the opposite I will respond. Just fun of the argument.

Everyone like me, everyone else is just jealous.

Anyone that wants to come show me up on my cat please do, if you school me it would be a good day because I'm still going to learn from it, its a win win if you know what I mean. I love a good challenge. BTW, I'm sure there are some that can and I am not saying I'm the god of sleds, just hoping to find some good riders. All in good fun guys (while its still running):boxing:

Kinda in same situation so I'm just going to play stupid and ask for forgiveness and not b**ch we she buys her things she don't need.

Oh ya for the turbo I bought for it that'll remain TOP SECRET under the hood!:face-icon-small-ton

To keep the peace if you can ? it will cost you double the cost of Pro, way cheaper than a divorce for sure, if you divorice, you will be plague by the kids if you have them every other weekend = reduced riding , if you can afford it after Support Enforcement is thru with you.. Throw in chasing around to fill your Alpha male attitude or desires = reduced riding time and or severe sleep deprivation = getting injured or dieing while falling asleep on the road = pay double, ride nearly every weekend on your Pro when the weather is permitting.

Personally wyo...we have all heard your opinions..on both pro's....I hope your pro works twice as good as you think its going too..those of us who ride the other pro...I promise..are quite happy with our choice as well..now as for the numb nutz thing..pretty low class if you ask me....
