Is it GAME OVER for me and sledding????

I barley know you Doug and your reputation is extraordinary here on the forum. I could tell you are a quality guy when we met at the avalanche class.

Perhaps we will get together on bikes this summer.

Take care of yourself!!!

Jeff

Give Dr Duy Tran a call at Healthquest Chiro in Murray ( 801-281-0555 ). I jacked my back up a few years ago so badly that I couldn't walk or even get dressed. He is very positive and made me believe I would be able to do the things I love. I too was terrified that I would be crippled up and confined to inactivity at too early of an age. the physical therapy and rehab were hard work and took along time, but I'm good now. He can certianly give you his opinion and options... Maybe all is not lost yet? This guy loves the outdoors too so he knows and appreciates how badly you want to be able to continue...Best of luck and my prayers are with you !

well, I tried a long bike ride today on my flying couch. oh well. I'm home. I did get 150 miles of smiles. Furry, too far gone to get "relief". I will get past this with hard work or at least get pain free and stop doing more damage. Sled Gimp, I have talked to Kim before about how awesome you are for what you do. I have said that I too would ride if injured. I am at a point where I can save that finality. the fact is I want to remain mobile if possible and I will. I need to not mountain ride at this point to protect what is left. You inspire me. thanks. Dartos, great that we met after all this time. summer sounds good to me too! ...Hector, I sent you a PM. 1000 thanks for being a great new friend. That PM was one I will keep, man. Thansks!!!!!! Ron, do I need to go look in the garage to see if the "rockstar" is still there? I did leave the door unlocked. lol. We will be sharing many more days w/or w/o sleds. GP... what to say? YOU ride like no other. Your love of it and dedication to your craft shows. I am the lucky one to meet you. I am thrilled that I have so many good pictures of you from this year. There will be more rides. :) Freak, it's so much more than sledding. I am always psyched to see you and ride with you. That grommed Mirror Lake Highway sounds good to me. Erik... Thanks for those words. I am humbled. Your ending was SnoWest classic! :) Larry... you know what i'm thinking. Thanks. I promise that I will ty to live up to your opinion.

This is what tore me up today. Look at what great friends we have. people who care for strangers and who are bonded by our love for those mountains. For me it has always been about the people I ride with or joke with here. The riding is secondary. If the time come that i can return and just have to go easy... cool!!! I'll be happy to be there. and I will continue to say that "today was the best day ever!"

Thanks all. You make doing the right thing easier. Doug

Rock,

Sorry to hear that your sledding days are over. :face-icon-small-sad You are such an outstanding role model in this journey of life. I am sad for the snowmobile community, but I am happy for you and your choice to do what is right for you. This is yet another chapter in the book of Rock Stars. Good luck to you in all you do!:beer;

Thanks again, Jeff

haha. Thanks for calling, Fab. Looks like I should give up Jaegar too. LOL. now THAT was a night to remember... or not! ;)

Jeff, Thanks. :) keep the fire burning up there in the hills for me, ok.

More fun to come! Just not in sledding

As I got off the phone with you the other day, all I could think was WOW, that has to be hard for man like you with all that knowledge and dedication. I was looking forward to getting to go riding more but, a man has to do what a man has to do. You have pointed my family into nothing but EXCELLENT advice and got us in touch with some other DEDICATED people out in Utah. Leave it up to us to go out there and ride those EPIC days. On the positive side all of us can have more memories to come with you outside of sledding. Your welcome to come down to Florida, as you already know, and I look forward to doing some boating up in the lakes with you. More fun is still on the way

A BIG SALUTE to the MAN many of us got to know as "GOV" early on!

Rock -you've always had an amazing prescence here and obviously in the lives of so many! I (along with many others I'm sure) look up to you and admire who you are and the life you lead! CHEERS!! :beer;

Rock,
You got 1 more ride left in you? Would love to do a lake tour with ya! Nothing crazy just get out one last time with the mafia!!!

If not I have a blue harley in my garage now (long story, dude owes me money but cant pay) ;) Got Road trip?

Our lives are made up of chapters.... and none of yours have been boring! That tells me that whatever is in your future won't be boring either! :beer;

I hate to hear of the pain and having to give up such a great passion! It breaks my heart to think of it. BUT, who's to say you won't find something even more fulfilling now? Not talking peeps though.... those can't be replaced!!! ;)

Many a memory Rock...:beer; Whenever I hear ANY Nickleback song I think of my favorite Rock... lol

Phatty, unreal but... i think I have no rides left in me. I'm toast. get that bike out and let's ride. :) i am riding in to PC today on the bike, psyched!!!

Rock Star:
I am touched by this thread and the members comments back to you....

You are loved and respected by many. You realize that this is not a dress rehearsal and that you only get one shot at living life to the fullest. You are making a very mature decision here.

Highway collision. I was out from '97 til 2002 ...back in for the past seven years. Absolutely am passionate about the sport, and the great people. Every logical fiber in my brain tells me to follow the same path as you....(I've rewritten this next line 3 times now and nothing I write seems worthy. I'm trying to say that I respect your decision and that this thread has impacted me profoundly enough to make the same decision as you in order to live life fuller.)

Here's to the days you wake up, pain free, with the sun shinin' on your back!! All the best.

alright then, I will bring the bike up this summer (or fall whenever you get back from NY) and will do the MLH on the bikes, stopping to fish somewhere of course :D

awe c'mon someone had to do it ;) you know I love ya bud! I'll bet we can still light a fire at your pad, invite those really cool neighbors over and cook some Duner Dogs :)

Damn Doug. Thats an easy call. Hang it up and take care of yourself. There is plenty of fun to be had without sleds. It's time to go scuba diving anyway. It's easy on the back and fun as hell. I'll call you next time im in Kamas so we can lift a few brew. Thats easy on the back as well.

Thank you very much. At some point we all have to ask with this or other behaviors in our lives... is it worth the price anymore? the thing to understand is that the price changes. What I could handle when I was younger, I can't now due to injuries. The same stresses yield different results now. I am more at peace now about this because of the huge amount of support from my riding friends who have seen me struggle on and off the snow. There were some really great comments here and I feel that my friends get it and they will support it and respect that it is my time. these friendships are much more than just sledding so I am ok knowing that.

NOW I can sit on the bench w/FAB. :) ;) sounds like a deal to me. :beer;:)

hey rock,
sorry to hear your back is giving you such trouble. im sure you could still ride if you just had everyone else dig you out.. ;)

anyway, i wish i would have made it out to ride with you and sunridge while you were still in 1 peice. good thing is you can still ride the bike and can have a good time in DA ISLANDS..

keep in mind, if all that goes to sh!t, i know of a few nice trailer parks down here where they have a great time playing shuffleboard and bridge.. :D
