Is a Vector worth boosting/modding for a Mtn sled?

If you have a good stock battery and hold the throttle wide open, they are not that bad. The Vector doesn't seem to have the flameout problem the RX has either.

well to answer your questions the flood thing no prob it all in the wiring like vinny said wire it to the headlight no probs. the vector does not have a flame out prob at all mine never has in over 6000km.as far as kits go there is only one for the vec & thats dave at powderlites kit with the 2860rs turbo his kit is the best bar none & i have rode every one it will hang with most turbo sleds out there.jetting is really easy with a a/f gauge once its dialed you dont have to touch it i ride from 0-6500ft & mine almost always dead on they are way more forgiving than the rx1 was for jetting.as for riding i will take my light vec over my buddies apex anyday the vec is way lighter feeling in the nose & a fun all around sled i dont have enough time on a nytro yet to give a comparison but its a more forgiving chassi.as for things to make it a better sled timber skid works great lost allot of weight, mount mod seat, light battery get ride of that junky bat tray, rider forward from wild child, lighthood get ride of all that headlight assembly, tunnel is not a have to have item but helps the weight some about 10lbs.i still love my sled not selling because i dont like it its just time to build something new but iam going to ride it another season now & may just keep it as a spare.if you have any other questions let me know if i can help iam taking off hunting for 2weeks so i wont be able to get back to you till then.heres some pics & a vid of my vec.

Thanks

iamvector - forget answering my PM, your post was exactly the info that I was looking for:o. You have an absolutely awesome looking sled and it sounds like it rips. I will PM you if I have any other questions - thanks for taking the time to post. Thanks to everyone for their input and advice. Please reply with any more info/advice.:D

This is my T-Vector powder sled. A little over the top, but it uses an Alpine front mount setup with a head shim. The Vector is great motor - it always starts, runs clean, has excellent throttle response, fuel economy, belt life etc. etc. You could do a lot worse than build or buy a sled like Iamvector's

i have a 06 alpine turbo vector with everything stock on it last year. i raced my buddy up a hill, he was on his mcx nytro that was all stock. i beat him with ease. both on 12 lbs of boost. i think the tracks are what gave me the advantage.

mines runnin 15lbs of boost!!! should be fun!

Confused

I received an email from Powderlites, not Dave, who suggested that I sell the Vector, buy a Nytro and turbo the Nytro. Since Powderlites is supposed to be the "best" turbo for a Vector, and they recommend not doing a turbo on the Vector, I am a bit confused and now hesitant to go forward with this project. I plan on calling them on Monday. I believe the email was from someone named Darren, if I remember correctly.

Darren works for Dave. I was torn between buying a turbo vector or waiting to get the nytro. The Vector I was going to buy was a steal. But I can buy a used Nytro, turbo it, add a few items(shocks, track etc) for just over 20k. Come next spring and I might be able to buy one done up like I want for around 20. I think it's worth waiting.

Sounds like that is the rub for NF1. Put $9-$10K into a Vector that you own free and clear or put 20K ( minus the Vector sell price - $5K ???) into a Nytro. I don't know much about the Vector to offer any sound advice. It sounds like the biggest issue is carb vs EFI. I will be interested to see what Powderlites has to say. Give us a report NF1.

You hit the nail on the head. I was all set to go with boosting the Vector and the corresponding upgrades. Now, I am having second thoughts:confused:. I need to talk to Dave or Darren and get the "rest of the story" as Paul Harvey would say:)

For most guys I think it comes down to how long are you planning on keeping the sled. Sure there are guys who build a new sled every year but the average Joe can't afford that kind of layout, so IMO to make it pay say comparable to swiching through a few 2 stokes you need to ride a sled for at least 3 seasons. That said I have decide to ride my RxT for 1 more season and just do some weight reduction mods on my Nytro for the not so deep days. In the spring if Yamaha comes out with a decent Apex replacement thats likely the direction I will go and not turbo the Nytro, if they don't then the Nytro wil get some boost. So I guess you need to ask yourself what is your timeframe here, 1 season, 2 or what. If you do the Vec and then try to sell it next year you will lose a pile of $$$ but you may be able to justify the loss over several seasons. On a side note if you did the Vec up right like Iamvectors you would be pretty happy with the sled. From a manufacturers point of view like Powderlites or whoever, they like to promote the latest models as it becomes increasingly more difficult to support all the older stuff when you are spending time on the new models.

boosted vector

this couldn't have come up at a better time , got a line on a stock 05 vector with about 1,500 km's on it , also have a line on a little fan that bolt's on to the side of the engine ,, now the contiplateing hhhmmmm .

i've rid'n the apex boosted also the nytro , but just don't need to spend that much $ ,

Yeah I wasn't thinking a stock vector with a turbo, more like the config that IAMVECTOR has. Save for different tunnel and rear skid(CR and M-10 vs. VE and Timber) just about everything else is done. I was thinking in that context.

Costwise, keeping your vector and turboing it is the best. If you want a turbo sled this is the most cost effective way to join that club. If you want a sled that will have the extra hp, the better handling, less weight etc. It's better to start with a Nytro versus putting all of your resources into a non-current sled.

ok ask this question! how many vectors blew head gaskets???? ask how many nytro's blew them???? you might be shocked to know nytro's were blown them!!!!! and if you own the vector already, your that much ahead of the game already.
