Installation - Burandt’s HD Powder Trac Boards

Installation - Burandt’s HD Powder Trac Boards

Anybody installed these on their sled yet? Looking to put them on my 2011.

I was told they are on backorder until the end of september/early october.
Anybody know if they even sent the first shipments yet?

Thanks!

Did they come with the front and back pieces or are the a seperate item? Can you post a pic of them?

Thanks

They are all one piece, Photobucket is jacked up... I'll get a pic up soon

I have a couple sets of these on order and will be installing once they arrive.

The stock 2013 setup is clean. I do not believe that there are any templates for the layout of the cutting of the tunnel... but this should be pretty straight fwd IF YOU ARE CAREFUL and have the right tools.

tdbaugha, Did your kit have templates or instructions or even comments about installing them on a pre-2013 Pro RMK?

For me... to make doubly sure that the tunnel is kept strong, I will be using the Lord 406/19GB adhesive that Polaris uses in the assembly of the chassis. The cool thing is that it is removable if there are problems/crashes. Some hard-core riders have had some bending of the tunnels in their 2011/12 Pros... The bonding will help to tie everything together better.

The tools you will will need as I see it...
Drill and bits (makes the radius of the cuts)
Unibit
A jigsaw or air recip saw with good, fine tooth blades, not too wide.
Layout tools:straight-edge, rulers, sharpie marker, masking tape, center punch.

If you are careful with your layout... check 2 or three times BEFORE you cut and take your time, you will end up with a good job in the end that does not compromise the strength of the tunnel.

layout and cut from the bottom of the tunnel for the most part.

Here is the best pic of the 2013 that I have for an Idea of the factory installation.

And from a previous post

Mountainhorse:
OK, not trying to be difficult, only to clarify 100% if that's possible:)

The front and rear supports that bolt to the chassis are included pre bonded to the black powder coated piece that is pictured ALONE (those pieces are specifically not included in the photo) in all of the advertisements for the Burandt edition boards?

Not being difficult at all... The photos that are out are confusing.

Here is the reply that I got back from Polaris Corporate a couple of weeks ago.

The "Burandt" boards are simply more heavy-duty versions of the stock ones and pow coated to shed snow better.

Question: Will the HD Burandt Boards come with the front and rear bracket already bonded onto the extrusion...OR will the user need to de-bond and re-bond those parts from their sled?
Answer: Will come with front and rear brackets already glued in.

Question: Are these boards Powder coated or are they E-coat?
Answer: Powder

Question: Will you also have the standard version of the running boards available as a kit that are on the 2013 sleds?
Answer: No, just the Burandt boards.

For those that need a little more insight on how these install:

I cut the majority of the stock boards off by cutting a straight line about 1" from the tunnel and then when I got to the drop bracket I followed it almost exactly. You need to drill out the two outside rivets on the drop bracket - leave the middle one.

Then I laid the board down on the tunnel and lined the drop bracket holes up with the holes in the boards. I took a sharpie and drew lines where I needed to cut more of the stock boards away and where to leave aluminum for drilling the holes.

Then I followed my sharpie lines with a pneumatic cut-off wheel until I could lay the board down on the tunnel and not see any more of the stock boards underneath the new boards.

Then I took a hammer and a dolly and flattened 3 of the rolled edges from the stock boards. These were located toward the front of the tunnel. You need to flatten them because where the new boards rivet too is directly on top of a rolled edge in two locations. I also flatten the rolled edge on the drop bracket. Flattening these edges allows the boards to lay flat on the tunnel.

Then I riveted the two drop bracket holes and the front hole that is already drilled into the tunnel from the factory (you can't miss which hole it is when you're installing them.

Then I center-punched and pilot drilled the rest of the holes from the top using the new board as a template. Then flip the tunnel over and drill the full diameter holes from the under side. This is done because you can't drill straight from the top because the hole is so close to the tunnel side and the drill hits the tunnel.

Then rivet them on from the underside, and bolt them to the tunnel and overstructure with your old hardware. The rear piece will mount to the tunnel in the front hole leaving the rear hole unused.

Again, take your time and it's pretty easy.

The instructions are excellent and come complete with templates for both sides on 11-12 chassis. All rivets and screws included as well... I was really happy to see that. I put them right over a set of '13 boards and I like these better, the cross ribs are approximately 1 and 1/2 times as wide which I would hope translates into more strength. I was very pleasantly surprised at how light they are...and how much open space there is. WAY lighter than HD BB's. Also when I was picking at the 13 boards it looked to me like they did not use lords in addition to the rivets along the tunnel sides. I could get my fingers on the edge under the stockers and create a gap between the board and the tunnel aluminum. The instructions do not call for any. I don't think it could hurt anything to use a small amount though, stronger like MH said. I think mine will just be riveted on per the instructions in case they don't turn out to be as bad *** as they look and the outer foot rail bends under the strain of some light to medium jumping. (and I don't have any of that fancy glue or an applicator laying around;)) I also set them over some '12 stockers and the amount of additional open space is pretty significant.
First impression to me is these are a really nice product, I'm looking forward to riding with them on my sled this season.

FCR... Can you post some pics of the complete kit and templates???

Anxious to see what the whole kit looks like.

Cheers and thanks for the pix!!

MH Yes I can tomorrow evening or Monday, working like a dog this month.
This may be one of a very small number of products I have purchased that may not require any ingenuity on the buyers part to install properly. I am actually impressed.
Of course the only true test is going out and pounding on them for a few weeks:face-icon-small-ton. We'll see how they hold up this winter.
