INPUT PLEASE, Powderlites vs Impulse or MPI SC

Due to where I live, etc. I can't test ride all the above products for the Nytro.

I'm really concerned about throttle response (ride lots of tight timber) and want to buy a Powderlites kit. I rode an MPI SC that responded great, but want a turbo.

For those of you with experience, How much less response does the Powderlites SII have compared to the Impulse or MPI SC kits? If any?

I'd be interested in MCX also, but I consistantly hear about lag issues.

I know there's lots of threads, but I can't make up my mind or maybe I'm just not hearing what I want to.

Thanks for any help,

BL

I think with the RB3 box with the timing and fuel control with the PL kit its gunna be hard to beat!

If all goes well this summer I will have one of daves kits with the RB3 controller on my apex!

I have looked at allmost all of the kits and test rode a few of them. they all seem good, my thing i also look for in a kit is how the maintenance will be. Smokie I have a quaestion for ya. How do you change the spark plugs on a alpine kit? looks like you will have to remove the turbo just to change plugs. that would really suck.

mcx kit is quite user friendly, its set up out of the box. every piece fits perfect. I was impressed, lag is there, its on all of them. impulse is a front mount so lag is less, but its still there. I looked at all the kits and think mcx is cleanest by far. impulse most responsive but tank seat area needs work its to hard.

if you decide to go mcx, I may be selling my kit. thinking about going a different route, only because I want to run over 20lbs of boost. I have rode an impulse kit as well and it does haver better throttle response but the only time it would be an issue with the mcx kit is drag racing. I like the fact that the mcx kit leaves everything stock looking you don,t have t cut anything up and you can put it all back stock if you want. they all have there little differences but at the end of the day they are all good kits.

Yeah, looked at Alpine too, really like the rear mount turbo location as apposed to the others, that's why I'm really interested in the Powderlites. Besides, Alpine didn't return my calls, so I don't feel I can count on them in the future. But If I have to deal with much lag, I'm going to be dissappointed. I ride in NW MT, on and off the throttle all the time through tight timber, quick, short climbs. I need the power to come on quick and stay spooled as I'm in and out of the throttle. Unfortunately there aren't many/any turbo sleds around here to try.

I don't believe you'll be at all disappointed with the Powderlite's kit...particularly with respect to lag...performance, quality, support and availability are best in class...you may not be disappointed with any of them for that matter.

I found Dave's kit to be the best designed, most efficient (this is key) kit available...and still believe so. Dave always makes himself available - Very satisfied...nothing against the others, just my criteria.

what part of montana you riding in?? I've got the mc x kit, and from the reports I heard before I had it installed was no lag. sorry to say the lag is there, just like the apex. but I ride down in skyland quite a bit and have no problems whatsoever with the mc x kit. it is my 5 mc x kit, and the reason I go with them is that's all the local dealer installs. I would love to have looked at pl kit, or impulse or alpine. after I had the mc kit installed, dealer said he might be looking at doing other kits, doooh.lol oh well, I couldn't be happier with the mc kit.

If you want response dont go with a rear mount kit! Anyone who has rode a front mount kit and a rear has to admit the front responds better period!! Dont care about timming this or fuel box that, do the same with a front mount and the response get better on them as well. Noob said it best... You hear how the rear mounts have no lag till you put it on your sled and ride it, then if your honest you tell people ya it has lag. People that are trying to sell you kits will say what you want to hear. Call impulse or alpine and you will never regret it. Dont get me wrong you learn to ride with it, and after awhile you wont even notice it has it.

dont pass up the impulse kit . its a great kit and paul has awsome customer service . you get a larger tank and a very complete kit , plus no lag . Also impulse seems to really stay on top of the game when it come to R and D , always trying to better his products . plus some of the other turbo companies are using impulse parts , so you know there working :D http://www.impulseturbo.com/

Are any of these kits using the under tunnel intercooler? That is one thing that I really liked about the synergy. Seems alot more efficient to cool with snow than air???

If you want to keep the sled stock looking and keep the stock tank/plastic get Dave's kit. I have ridden MOB's and it works well on and off the throttle. We ride the trees alot here in Washington and I don't see MOB having any issues negotiating some tight technical stuff!

As for lag I am sure that the fornt mounts have better throttle response than a rear mount but to what degree......

I have a front mount Apex and until I installed the RB3 and added timing on the bottom end I had lag aswell. The Nytro has lots more torque on the bottom to make the lag not seem as bad. Once you add the timing I don't know if you would really notice the difference.

One more thing.... Out of the 100 times I have called Dave at Powderlites I can count maybe three times that I had to leave a message. That to me was worth the price of the kit!!! That and I can now adjust my RB3 with my cell phone!!!

How does dave bring the oil back from the turbo?? Anyone know?? Does it have a pump on the end of the crank like MCX uses?

Bender kits had an electric oil pump too, that is cheap and cheesy, I have no trust for electric oil pumps, I would go with mcx for sure I have 4000 miles on mine sled looks like it went through war but the turbo kit keeps on running awesome, you should talk to Leipheimer Yamaha he knows all about mcx.
