I will never ride without a tether again

I was on top of Lava Mtn(south of Togwotee) today after a night of high winds and snow. It was still snowing and blowing with poor visibility, all the old tracks were covered with big drifts behind every pine tree. I topped a drift at about 5-10 MPH and had about a 4 foot wide hole to the next 6 foot drift. It was like hitting a brick wall, my 1100T ending up completely up side down on top of my legs with the handlebars buried in the snow and the throttle wide open. It ran for about a minute, smoking like crazy before it shut down on its own. I crawled out and the best I could do alone was get it on it side. Due to the poor visibilty and being in a 6 foot hole it took my 2 riding buddies about 15 minutes to find me. After letting it set uprite for while I was able limp it back to the lodge.

Could have been way worse of an outcome!

sorry for posting this in deep powder also, meant to post it here

This is where the ROV comes in handy-
Hope no oil got into your Turbo line.
Was in JH and decided not to drive up- as this wind the last 2 dayz is nutz.
Hope your damage is minimul

If your sled is upside down it should lose oil pressure and shut off by itself. Should only take 10 seconds.

It may not have been a minute, but was longer than 10 seconds, I crawled out from under the seat and was digging for the handlebars when it shut off on its own

I witnessed the same thing happen with a very good friend of mine. He was extremely fortunate that he was not caught in the track when the throttle got stuck. The sled ran for about 20 seconds before it shut off. I have never seen an engine smoke like that before. All of our sleds have tethers now...

I had my TM8 flip over when I hit a hard 6 ft drift and the track at wot just missed me as I dove away. Had a tether on since!

A tether is a good idea, but I did see a guy get pinned under a running sled that had a tether on it. Flipped right on top of him so the cord did not pull off the button. The big buck tether air would do no good in that instance. Hard to mount a tether in the right spot for every occasion!

Wow, hopefully you didn't get hurt.
I had something similar happen once, where the flipper got pinned and the engine was bouncing off of the rev limiter for what seemed like forever.
In reality it was only a few seconds before I pulled the tether and turned on the ROV.
Even though I had to manually pull the tether to shut her down, I'm glad that I had it. Because the right side of the handle bars and ignition switch were buried in the snow and I would have had to dig in snow (really quickly) to shut her down.

Put my sled basically upside down (nytro) it ran for about 10 sec longer than it usually does when that happens but the track was spinning man was there oil in my exhaust, needed a litre of oil to top it up, first thing i did was order a tether for my cat not letting that happen again.

is their not enough stories to convince people to wear a tether????

its the first thing i put on a sled..

glad you were ok

and have made the decision to wear one from now on..

The Doo and Poo guys I was riding with said that if would have happened to them their push button kill switch on the bars would have probably shut theirs off,
Cat uses a rocker arm switch.

The more I think about it, I wonder why it doesn't come with a tether from the factory?
