today i went to beverlodge alb to trade in my 08 m10 , with low ks, never been sat on seat, never been used hood and they offered me a whopping 5800 dollars, and 3000 for my supposedly well used 06 m7. i told them i would be a repeat client caus i buy lots of sled, i have 3 ms in my shop, they r f****d in the head. they wanted 6500 difference for a new m8 pro. i told them i will sell privately and i will drive to great lengths to get one. they told me that the 8s were a hot item and no deals, so i told them i will remember that and in a no snow year or slow economy they will have to beg riders to buy thier chit, these guys r not riders just car salesman's and dont no chit. he asked me if there was diesel in my 7 cause it smoked when it started up,duh i hope dealerships like this go belly up , than included in the price they wanted 199 for document fees, thats crap, u dont pay that fee on toys, just another money grab. any dealers reading this remember, its our money that keeps u guys going if ur selling for full retail we expect full retail trade value, for me ive lost aprox 8000$ in 2 yrs thats crazy. i wish i wasnt such a hard core cat guy cause all the dealers around here suck, and the pol dealership is awsome just chitty sled

just to add a note
there was a dealer in a nearby town that was selling yamaha side by sides , i inquired about one, i was told no deals, full retail, and get in a lineup, if i wanted a deal go to calgary, guess what, that dealer is no longer we r in the drivers seat ,not them

Trade in

Hey bro I feel ya, but you need to look at it both ways. Do a search and see what you can buy a left over 08 m1000 for? They're out there for $7,500+++. So the last thing a dealer wants is to buy your sled for $6,500 to $7,000 and then clean it up ($50), floor plan it($150-225 a month) and pay a sales person (say $100) just to break even at best. No dealer will ever stay open if they did that. Just list it for what you thought you should have got on trade in and it should go quickly. But don't be insulted by a dealer. At the end of the day he is trying to make a dollar just like you at your job. In today's economy, very few people in the retail industry are trying to get rich; they are just trying to get by. I know it may be hard to look at it that way but there is always two sides to things. (And, no, I don't work for or own a powersports dealership).

Good Luck:beer;

floored used sleds?

You said used sleds get floored costs; I thought only new sled, rigs, etc got that cost associated with'em....

Welcome to snowmobiling! Snowmobiles don't exactly hold their value. I'm not from your area, so I don't know anything about this particular dealer, however, dealers are in business to make money. When a dealer takes a trade, they are often excepted to give some sort or warranty on the sled when it is sold. That doesn't always work out in their favor. Also, dealers cannot put a used sled on floor planning, therefore, they are putting out cash until the sled is sold. That's why they have to take a sled on trade cheap enough to make it worth while in case they have to sit on it for a while. Also, I don't know any dealer that would purchase a sled at full retail, and try to sell it not to make money. It doesn't make sense. If that's the case, they will not be around long. You're better off to sell your sleds privately then go in and make a deal once you're ready to buy. Maybe the dealer didn't want your trade and they offered you nothing knowing you wouldn't accept it?

You must not have been to very many dealers over the years. It's a basic business practice, buy low, sell high. It always has been and always will be. If you want retail or close money for your sled, you are going to have to do the work of selling it yourself.

It could be worse, I went to trade a 95 cat and the dealer flat out said they didn't want it for any price. That, my friend, is insulting.

I was in the car biz for 12 years, I "insulted" a ton of people on their trades. Nobody has ever said "that's more than I thought it was worth"

RE: floored used sleds?

No, Although not all, most dealers floor plan new and used sleds, cars, boats and ex..... Ultimately it really depends on there cash flow. Kind of the same thing for parts inventory as well.

haha that's ok, I had a guy want to trade-in his 1994 Safari 377 on an outboard motor this summer. He said, "it's easily worth $2500.00, give me $1500.00 and you can make some money on it". I think we gave him $300.00 just so we wouldn't hurt his feeling too bad!

In Canada, no floor plan companies will touch used atv's, sleds, motorcycles, boats or trailers. Actually, all of the floor plan companies except GE have now pulled out of the industry. Cars are a different story.

yep..the dealers have always discouraged trade ins..i cant blame them..i take the bath if i want to trade...otherwise i do a private sale...and if i have a hard time private sale the dealer is in the same boat..and he has overhead

Floor plan

Although I'm not a power sports dealer. I am a auto dealer and in our business in the end, just like a consumer, it comes down to your ability to pay.

Hey man just be happy you don't have a turbo apex your trying to sell;) Spend 30 get 10. That depreciation would make ya suicidal lol, and yes I went through that last year:rolleyes:

recreation

Anything with recreation attacked to it will cost you bare none it sucks.Anything you buy new you get burned..That is one tough business these days... good luck.:D

well i am gonna sell privately , i was just hoping to get a new one faster by trading but im not desperate,or stupid, and i will deal very hard when i buy my new ride, even if i have to drive a 1000k for it. dealer support is non existing and cat dont stand by thier product as we can see with all the dd failures so im gonna shop and when she breaks ill fix er my self. back in the good ole days the dealers were riders not now thier just sales people that dont know anything other than than the color and it has a track and engine

Your for the most part always going to get raped on a trade in, its the nature of the beast... private sale is the way to go if at all possible.

Go blue book your trade in value and its probably around 1k+ less than retail... its just the way it works..

That's why I avoid buying stuff brand new... your depreciation is horrid, once you take that machine off the lot, it's considered used.

Your best bet on getting the most bang for your buck on trade is to go to the largest dealer in your area, they'll have more money to play with then your smaller one or two brand lots.

You also have to look at the position the eco has put these dealers in, the dealer I worked at was paying 10k+ alone in flooring fees a month and selling maybe 1-2 machines a week, ended up having to drop one of their brands and laying off a couple of people.

Believe it or not, atleast here in Idaho, winter is the worst time of year for dealers, sledding isn't as big of an industry as dirtbikes, quads, and utvs... so they're all hurting pretty bad right now....

the funny thing is, when a dealer has a so called demo sled ,its never discounted thousands of dollars, they want near new prices, its still a used sled

I bought my 06 m7 LE at the same dealer, funny thing was I went back in there 2 weeks later to chat up on some small issues I had and they didnt remember me? Fawked I tell ya. I would never go back to tartans again either. Best part is the dumbazzes left 3 diff tools in the engine area when they did the PDI. Yup theyre mine now.

one place i can tell you not to deal with unless you have to is north gate Honda in Grande Prairie which deals acrctic cat as well. they managed to lose one of my brand new MX bikes when i was having it serviced, and by lose i mean it was stolen off there lot. oh and one thing they forgot to mention was they don't have lot insurance.

Ripped off in Grand Prairie

Over the summer those clowns in grand prairie tried an outright act of fraud againts me. I wont get into the details but the service manager is a lying pos. So one place you might want to look for your so called "lost dirt bike" is at the service managers house. By the way, having no insurance on their lot would be their mistake and they should be held liable for that, not you.
