I melted my Y-pipes on my RX1

I pulled my skid on my 03 rx1 with 11k miles and noticed the "y" in my two y-pipes had gotten so hot they melted and collapsed. We run under tunnel exhaust, and I just re-shimmed my valves. I also recently installed a low pressure (3-5psi) electric fuel pump to rplace my temperamental diaphragm pump. Since then my sled has been running real strong. We run ten other sleds with the same exhaust setup, and I have never seen this. The pipes are totally exposed to snow, and I travel about a half mile on road to reach our snow park........but we always have for the last 8 years with our tons. We are running three turbo RX1's in our group and I've never seen this.:face-icon-small-sad

I know the Apex titanium Y Pipes were prone to this but never did see a stainless set do it. Must be a fueling issue. Change anything else recently ?

If it is fueling it must be the electric fuel pump. Maybe it doesnt keep up, and I'm running lean at WOT. I try and check the fuel pressure. What should it be? 5psi?

Do you have a AEM ? Not sure what the RX should have for fuel pressure since its carbed. If it all of a sudden started running strong i would take a guess and say your right its lean. Kind if like when a 2 stroke runs its best, when it goes lean and burns down lol. Im sure a RX1 guy will chime in. Sorry i couldnt be more help.

Don't know if you remember a few years back somebody in your group needed a set of Y-pipes, I think it was when you had a turbo sled apart, anyways the ones you bought from me were the 05 model which are titanium. If your sled is lean and you have those pipes on it its probably getting hot enough to melt them. It'd be nice to know your A/F, remember they always run the strongest right before they blow up.

I have 2 sets of stock Y pipes for sale , one set brand new , the other come off a stock apex PM me if interested .

Actually, they were the ti pipes you sold me. I put my steel ones on the Turbo because you said I might have a problem running ti on the Turbo. I bought a set of steel ones from a friend and now have to get to the bottom of my lean condition. I'm going to start with my fuel pump.
