HP Per Pound Of Boost

-- I like the Tial external wastegate due to the relatively uninterupted exhaust flow over the turbine wheel. Apparently this allows to run 3lbs less boost for the same power compared to a non-Tial(Tial 8lb = 11lb non-Tial). Tial = more power per lb of boost plus quicker, more efficient spool. So less boost = same power = less heat = less octane = less money for high grade fuel. I like simplicity of some of the kits also.

That would be great if it where that simple, I would have to see it to believe it though. Octane wont matter, they will all put out about the same power on the same octane weather its 6lbs or 11lbs if tuned right, but may depend on charge temps too which the better turbos should run lower. Its just a matter of physics.
My sled at 6lbs will run with some other kits at 8lbs (thats right around pg deto limit on both) so if your telling me that with a tail I would have the same power at 3-4lbs theres no way, all though I might have more at 6lbs with a tail I don't think it would run like it does on 9lbs. But like I was saying I don't even need 12lbs and less is more in my world.
 
--So in other words, Tial has a tighter, more efficient exhaust flow around the turbine wheel with less blowby. This allows for quicker spool and more drive power to the compressor per given fow/volume rate through the pipe. --Much less exhaust is wasted in blowby and is converted to work.

--Less blowby around the turbine increases the backpressure in the pipe, which also creates more power (in a 2 stroke) and quicker spool up, per given flow/volume rate.

--All this working together equates to quicker spool up and about 3lbs less boost needed with Tial per given HP rating compared to NON-Tial. (I do not know if the 3lbs is linear or progressive to WOT.)

I got some bad rep from you, must of been a mistake, I'm assuming. No worries, just curious.


Just to be clear on the tail, in no way do I disagree with the tail having the potential to be a better system in some ways, it makes sense. But I do argue the 3lbs, I don't buy that part, maybe compared to a 2860 then I think 3lbs is about right around the 8lbs level. To me unless there is a night and day difference between a tail and non tail I would rather not have the extra stuff hanging around.
 
--The difference in number of components between say OVS Tial and Twisted RG is basically whether or not to run oil injection. I believe OVS offers optional oil injection delete also. Both setups run wastegates, they are just positioned differently.

the 2871 with a 64 housing will only turn down to 9 pounds at 5000 ft.
I run the 2876 wuth 64 0n the 600 and it is more rippy than the 2860. with double the top end.

Trying to make sure I understand:

With an early M8 and 3071-.086 you were only able to get a max of 11 psi at 9000ft......how did it compare at 11# with the other sleds around it?

With the (same???) early M8 and a 3071 -.064 you were squeeking pistons on a long pull.......... what boost? Innercooled? What fuel?

few more question for Product tester, on a 800 what is your theory on the 2871 hybrid vs the 2876.

It sounds like you are saying use the 2876 with .64 for a 800, or did I read that wrong???

Was the .64 housing that you are referring to squeaking piston the 2871? If so, did you try the .64 housing on the 3071? That combo (3071/.64 turbine housing) on the turbine map shows what should be the same backpressure as a 2871/.86 turbine housing. Now you have me a little scared to try this .64 turbine housing I have sitting here....:plane:

So what is it,

Mine is a 2871-2, its a little slow to get up. Installed new in 09 buy twisted, now they are saying go with the 2876

Get with Shain, and swap out to the 76. The slow bottom end will go away. My 8 is way better since I got the upgrade. And after you put it on it will look alot better.

I have never heard the term squeak used with a turbo description. Do you mean you can hear that it is on the verge of stalling the compressor? If so is this at wot?
