How to: remove foam on side pannels and hood

i peeled my foam off and used a gasket scraper & paint stripper in a spray can i got from NAPA to take the glue off. The paint stripper didnt hurt the inside of my black side panels either. worked great

I use a can of 3m adheasive remover and a heat gun. heat the side panel from the outside and the foam peals right off. Dont' get it to hot to warm the plastic. Then spray the 3m adheasive remover over the area where the foam was, let it soak for a minute or so and them wipe. Repeat as nessessary and then wash with soap and water. Wallla clean and sticky free...

Max at Tri City told me specifically pulling the foam off will void warranty and even some venting would push it. I'd find out specifically first. Like you said though, if you pick up new panels and put them on, no bid deal.

The only reason the foam is in there is to dampen sound for epa reasons. It will cause no harm to remove it. Heat tape is another story.

if your gonna remove the heatshield would most defiantley run reflective tape in its place, as posted above the can actually rubs on the metal reflector if its not there its gonna rub on the sidepanel instead... did my buddies slp vents on the sidepanels, used a 2 inch hole saw and just drilled the holes and left the metal panel fully intact for this reason!

Just a thought on the warranty issue.1 Polaris offers there own VENT KITS for the PRO RIDE and the must expect that you need to modify the foam inside the panel.2 I always take the side panels off when the sled goes back for work, etc because his shop always seem to scratch anything I bring in! 3 If panels aren't on ( no warranty issue ).

Really, you take your side panels off when you bring to the shop?? hmmm? Would have never thought of doing that but not a bad idea unless they store your sled outside.

The ONE THING I INSIST ON is they keep my sled inside!!!! I've told them about the scratches and I always get that "BLANK LOOK". The problem is they are the only good dealer close to me, so I just put up with them!

what i was told on warranty was simple, if the mod you did cause the specific issue, you have to pay for it. removing foam isn't going to hurt your engine, polaris offers slp vent kits in their catalog and my dealer said put them on. people are scared of this warranty, the rep at the dealer told me there isn't a riding out there that he doesn't think won't run at least a can on their sled. if your dealer voids your warranty claim because you removed the foam, he shouldn't have to worry about selling you another outfit.

Coleman fuel. This was suggested on another thread. I found out after spending 5 hours painstakingly removing it with goo-gone. The coleman fuel works great- just pour a little bit on, let it soak in for a minute, and peel.

I'm not surprised. Coleman camp fuel is a good all purpose cleaner (even though it says not to on the back of the can).

It also works well to clean electrical insulators w/o breaking them down FYI.

Simply by removing the foam will take off some of the silver paint. I went to auto parts store and got a close match and re-painted the inside of my panels. You should be able to get a pretty close match.

I just removed the foam on my 08 hood for the SLP pipe. I used a putty knife while pulling the foam back. This left almost no foam. I then sprayed carb cleaner and let it sit for 2 minutes. I then took a new razor blade and scraped the goo by dragging it with decent pressure. Then wipe the goo off the blade. Finished it off with brake cleaner to prep for the reflective tape.

I have found out that just pealing it off of the side pannel most of the sticky gule came right off with the foam. On the exhaust side i heat taped the whole side, along with the polaris side pannel vents!. I think it should work but when i ride i like to roll my sled in some occasions..will the side pannel hit the exhaust and mealt??

I use a hair dryer, with a plastic putty knife, I heat the adhesive edge of the foam, and dip the putty knife on some type of standard Orange Based citrus cleaner, and pry/scrape/pull the foam off.

Has any one had melting issues after taking off the heat plate on the exhaust side?

Yep!

I did lay down a little heat tape but not enough. There was melting right next to where the pipe is.

I only have about 110 miles on mine and really haven't ridden it super hard yet so I am guessing there could be more to come. I need to get my vents on ASAP and then tape the rest. I tossed my shield but and wishing I hadn't now.
