How do you end up in snowmobile films?

I'm not sure if this is in the right topic..but i tried, sorry if it's not.

Like most sledders, my dream is to be in a boondocking, deep powder riding, chute climbing snowmobile film. I live kinda near spokane and 509 films..i was wondering how i would go about getting involved with them and maybe being in ther movies someday? Do i just find out where they ride, show up and show them what i got? if anyone has any advice please let me know..

Film your own stuff of you doing your own chutes and jumps and drops, if it is worthy enough trust me somebody will find you. If you post a vid of yourself jumping 200 ft on youtube that would be a good start haha.

get a sled that is alot more expensive than a mtn max! after that i bet its pretty easy

LOL, true. You won't be doing much chute climbing with one of those unless it's modded to the balls. Leave the climbing to the Ski-Doos! :D

On topic: I've been wondering the same thing since I first saw Thunderstruck 3 when I was 8 or 9. Move to a town where the riders from the movies are from, follow them to the mountain and show em what ya got I guess! HAHA

like said above, not trying to bash on your sled, but its pretty hard to do anything to crazy on a mtn max. unless its spring, then there still pulling stuff only turbos can do, but if you can do epic jumps or whatever, get some video together. or maybe call em and see if you can go ride with em, i think when you see the stuff in person they try, you will think otherwise about the filming thing, a guy with a m7-8 bigbore with a turbo who i beleive rode with the thunderstruck guys was up rocking our area, a line that is hard for even the biggest sleds around here got SLAYED by that guy, like let of way early as to not jump over the top.

Maybe try it the old fashioned way. Go to them and ask for a job. Pay your dues by putting in time/effort. For instance, you could volunteer to sweep the shop, lug gerry cans around for them, clean/detail sleds (not your own), hang/dry rider gear/boots after rides etc. Clean out the trailer. shovel the sidewalks. If this sounds like too much work, then you could always start your own business. I'm sure that would be much easier.

Work for it! Be a good guy, and do MORE than what the boss would ask of you. That would get my attention.

Good luck.

i've thought about taking your route Bman, and all of you guys bashing my yammie, i wishhhh i could go drop 11 grand into a new summit xp or M8 and then another 5 grand into after market goodies. :) the mtn max is only a hand me down. i'm only 16 haha..but it gets me around..

Get a badazz sled, start riding gnarly lines, and boost off of huge cornaces and jumps. Maybe get in some big crashes. Just like any action sport, you just gotta not worry about getting hurt and go as big as possible! I guess in the end, somebody has to be a pro sledder, just gotta dedicate yourself completely. Good luck for sure man.

Have fun, do what you like to do, go riding in areas where you know the big boys play and film and don't try to show off or you may come off as an arse. Riding the newer sleds does help as that is what works and what people usually watching want to see unless you have an old mod that is really impressive and can keep up with the new machines. I have lots of buddies who ride in the movies and most get in them because they really don't care so much to be in a film as much as riding for the thrill of riding and it shows. Love the sport and it will love you back.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't Dan the "krazy Canadian" running on a modded mountain max in a couple climbs two or three thunderstrucks ago?
Sleds do not make the rider. Ride that one till it dies or you can afford another. Then since you are only 16 go to college get a high paying job and start you're own film company.

My suggestion would be to ride as much as possible, and push yourseld 10x past when you think you shouldnt... You have to have that one in a few twinkle that pushes you to feats beyond reason. Start small and then work into huge. You dont think the guys in the movies just went to the store bought expensive sleds and slayed the mtn on them do you? No they started way back when and learned to ride. Then they learned to push themselfs. And then the movie deals came to them!! Good luck and try hard!!

Ever see the Crazy Canadian... in lots of films climbing lots of chutes on a Mountain Max. The key to success is having no respect for your sled and life in general. Show people that and out comes the camera.

word of advice, dont start a filming company right now. market is down. wait for it to build again, and starting your own is a lot of work and money, trust me:eek:

just ride

what they don`t show is ALL the sleds they trash ,and all the trips to the E.R. !!!! THIS COULD GET VERY EXSPENSIVE!! do you have good health bennies, and hows your ins on your sled. belive me i done plenty of crazy stuff when i was younger , glad i`m alive!! but if thats your thing do it!! do it well!! just my 2 cts. good luck

First off, dont listen to the haters about your sled. Its your sled and you should be comfortable with it. You can do amazing things on your Mtn Max if you want.

2nd. You need to respect your life and your sled. You should never attempt something beyond your skill level or put yourself in harms way just to be in a video.

3rd Practice practice practice. Start small and work up. Jump 15 feet until your so comfortable jumping 15 feet that its smooth and natural. Start jumping 25 feet and do the same thing. work your way up, but you have to push yourself.

Lastly film yourself doing some cool stuff. It doesnt matter if the camera work is crappy (though if its smooth it really helps) but just something to show the film guys. They will recognize talent when they see it. I know a lot of film companies have ways to submit footage to them or contact them, and we do watch almost everything people send us. I would say put together a 3-5 minute highlight clip of your best stuff and send it in. Understanding that you may or may not hear back from companies. Dont get discouraged, just work harder at improving your skills.

Good Luck!!!:D

You are a class act Phatty. :beer;

2nd the just go ride and have fun comment. Someday, you might find yourself in an area where there is filming going on. If/when you do, you will not believe what these guys are doing. Everything is 4x what it looks like in a video. If you ever get a chance to push your sled up a "film worthy chute" you will know if you are cut out for it. Because you will either be saying "lets do it again" or you will be done with it.

I love to climb, but one video size chute and what seemed like an eternity of full throttle and full little red button up a narrow chute that topped out with about 4 feet of parking space at the top was all I needed to help me forget about the riding in extreme videos dream.

You may find out that it is your thing, but until you get a little more seat time, just go ride and have fun. Take time to shoot pics with your riding buddies.
