I have used zip ties/Plyobond in the past but I have read about another adhesive, ?E-85? or somthing like that. Availiable at the hobby stores. Is that the name of it? Thanks!

take it from a body guy. what works best is stuff from the automotive industry like DURAMIX SEMI RIDGED PLASTIC REPAIR. if done correctly it will look and function like it never happened

Duramix i believe has a part # of 40-40, which works real good for fixing hoods. You just need to grind down the edges and glue it. we use that glue for everything from metal, concrete, wood aluminum. it works great.

Just got back from the body shop supply house. Looks like I'd be into the materials (adhesive, aplicator, mesh) for $75-$100. I can have the body shop do it for less than that.

At least you would have the stuff for when you break it again...

I think he knows you!
you could say John is a LITTLE hard on plastic,(hood)metal,(pipes)wood,(trees yes more than one) ect. O and teeth too:eek:

but we still love ya man.:D:beer;

Here is what I did

I got this idea from someone here on Snowest. I did this to my son's M5 hood and it has lasted 1 year so far. I went to Home Depot and bought some plastic pet screen mesh and a can of PVC pipe glue. On the under hood side, I applied the glue to the break and placed the plastic mesh over the break also. I used a small paint brush to spread glue on the mesh. I made the mesh a little bit bigger every time I put a new layer down. I did about 7 layers. It has held up very well. You cannot tell there was even a crack on the outside of the hood. I bought a small can of touch up paint from Arctic Cat and filled in the crack with paint on the outside. When it was dry, I wet sanded with 1200 then 2000 paper and buffed out. Cost me a total of $15 bucks and the paint was $8 of that.

Damn trees

I got it all stitched up with zip ties and the shop is going to put some semi rigid plastic repair stuff on it for me. It is actually pretty firm with just the zip ties but is right where the hinge is so better to go with the over build than not, IMO. It won't be pretty but it should hold up until the next spring trip out with BMWMS. I'll get some pics soon and post a status report in December.

Yes, I am hard on stuff but I get a bad rap on the tree thing. They put those things in the dumbest places. I actually had a guy give me bad rep for my tree escapades. :rolleyes: I still sleep pretty good at night.

How about YOU not jumping off of your sled watching it ghost ride down the mountain and then MAYBE you would not have to fix your hood all the time............Just a thought

Thanks but I'd rather go home in the truck than the helicopter. I have a lot of zip ties.

I would have thought you just build an aluminium box over it with a heat exchanger as the lunch dogger fry daddy xtreme, helps justify the phrase:
I broke it there on purpose for the new retro fit!
