Twist what around? Your first statement is connecting a causality to a belief. To answer your question, no he wouldn't of. But if people had those same beliefs but never acted on them are they just as guilty as Manson?

Your third statement about Jesus, correct, he was persecuted because of his beliefs. Do you think that was correct? Do you think that would happen today? Yah, that happened in the past, about 2000 years ago, and society has changed such that your beliefs alone are not enough to get you into trouble. It is the action of a person on those beliefs.

Ex. It is not illegal to believe the current president is a liar, thief and should be shot. It is illegal to try and shoot him though....

So what are we arguing again? Oh yah, that people should be persecuted for their beliefs. That is very scary my friend and really throws a wrench in the whole freedom of religion that the constitution grants us.

Interesting topic of discussion. It is a very gray area, and a very dangerous one too. Who makes the decisions as to what is a "bad belief". Society? The cronies in charge? It is a very slippery slope.... It is also easy to make that decision in hind sight.
