Hey Guys, Im New here

An M6,7,8 would work great; or a mountain cat 600,800 in the older chassis (which will force you to throw your weight and ride the pizz out of it and make YOU A BETTER RIDER) The price you would have to put into your sled to make it mountain worthy is alot more than a newer mountian sled. Plus the 440 engine is about half of what you need on a powder day

I have done most of my learning on a 800 mc. Get ready to throw some weight around because it is a beast. You have to have lefty throttle with this sled because the amount of weight you need to use to get the thing were you want it. That would be my first mod on an older chassis, that and some extra hood straps (with extra straps, and low or no windshield the mc's can take some rolls without extensive damage). four seasons later i can rip the mountain on this thing. it is limited to climbing but the good thing is that all my friends had sleds in the same calaber so it wasn't a big deal.

Something i have found that made me improve faster is to pick a line that i wasn't sure i could complete. Go after it (safely) and if you don't make it keep trying everytime you come back until you get it. Some times you can only attempt it once per snow fall. Eventuallly you will figure it out and that skill that has developed from learning how to handle that line will show in other situations.

Good luck and look us up if your ever in CO. I got the 800 mc as a spare for friends and family.

first off you should clean up and the sled you got right and sell it,dont spend a penny all summer and fall,mow lawns charge about 30 bucks a mow and save it and you should have a decent amount of cash flow for a newer sled. i wouldnt buy a older sled to mod with your buddies ( my option) just sell the one you got and go from there
i have a 2000 700 rmk with a 136 right now look in my signature....
goodluck

Your Kind of like me, Except your starting allot earlier then I did. I rode an 1996 ZR 580 Since I was 8. I was not able to by a new sled tell just this last year. I'm now 20. I saved up my money and bought a 06 RMK 900. I absolutely love this sled. I wouldn't recommend the sled for a first time mountain sled because you need to do allot of things to the sled to get it to go good, and not to mention it’s a tank.

Guess the point is I don't think it's really the sled that makes a good rider you just need to learn to ride whatever sled you get. It was really hard for me to get used to my 900. At the beginning of the season I was constantly getting stuck, but now that’s not a problem anymore. Best tip I have is find friends that are willing to help you out. Ride with guys that know how to ride and watch them. I found watching videos also really helped me out with riding technique.

i would just so happen to be this friend.. and let me tell you about his tank.. .here is some pics for reference and he is lucky to have some friends who help dig that thing out time after time.. and yes he is getting better with each and every ride...

im glad that i have been able to break my back and help your a$$ out my friend:):D... cant wait for the many more stucks to come by the both of us :beer;

im riding a 01 skidoo 600 144 and an 02 moutnian cat 600 144 and i love them. if you wanna climb and u havent had much time on a big sled i would choice these. i have rode a friends 900 162 and without the help of learning on a phazer and those 600s i wouldnt have had much luck. you can also find a cheep 600 for about 3000 or less.
