Help With Neighbors Continuos Barking Dog!!!

Hello Every one I figured I come here some desperately Needed Advice on a reocuring problem I have been trying to mentally deal with for over 2yrs now.
I live in Clarkston WA, and My neighborhood is a pretty calm setting except this Neighbors Big Yellow Lab dog, I myself am a dog lover but not to one like this that is just put ouside to bark all day and night, and I have never heard ANYONE ever open the rear sliding glass door that I can see from my front porch, to tell this POS dog to be quiet of shut-up, Nothing

I and other neighbors have reported this over and over. and seems we get no results.

I called it in again about 9:30 pm last night and the police stopped by and neighbor opened the rear door and let it in, and I got woke up againd this morning at 7am when they let him out again, I can hear it barking as I go down the driveway going to work and when I return home at about 6-7 in the evening, and I called it in again this evening after 10pm and there must of not been anyone home when an officer stopped by cause it almost 11:30 and I can still hear him at it.

I know there is a sound ordinance after 10pm in the county here, but they don`t seem to give a crap about that either, It seems like I have to wait till after that to report it, cause it seems they won`t do anything until then.
Even though there has been a huge history of complaints on this dog from other neighbors too.

I swear It seems like he barks till he is out of breath, and less then 30 seconds later starts back up again, etc..etc..etc..
Why do people even have animals if there soal purpose is to set in the yard or kennel and do nothing but bark and eat and S#^t?

To me this is totally unexeptable, the Police around here evidently won`t do Crap about it, I have called this neighbor in many many times in the last 2 yrs with no result, I guess the neighbors don`t give a rats AZZ if it bothers anyone or not, cause they have made no effort to quiet the animal.

I would of figured by now that Police would of turned it over to animal control or something, or they would have issued a fine, but obviously not.

This situation is driving me nuts, I can`t seem to get it out of my head or get to sleep when I can hear the dog over the tv when we are watchin a movie or trying to go to sleep at night, and is my alarm clock in the mornings.

Any suggestion on what to do, or where I would call to get something done about this , I personally would rather Shoot the SOB but that won`t get me anywhere. other than in trouble.

Do you think animal control would even bother with it?

Any suggestions or comments would be appreciated.

Sorry for the long post, but I feel I am out of options other than just moving
but I shouldn`t have to be pushed to that.

Thanks, Darren

Ya other neighbors have complained, but not sure when the last time was I don`t personaly know many others around us, I am not really close to this house either, How the Houses that are right next to where the dog is deals with it I don`t know, one neighbors duplex`s bedroom window it literaly not 10ft from where the dog sets and barks, and other houses are actually surrounding that property, I set kinda kidy korner from the place and about 150yds away, up a bit higher elevation. But this is a realy echoing type neighbor hood, don`t know how else to explain it.

He know`s, but don`t seem to care I almost think he has police friends.
If you get my meaning.

Darren

A 22 CB cap out the back window!

I had a similar problem and wrapped 1/2 a roll of duct tape around the muzzle of the dog after I talked to the owners several times without success. It worked!

Rat poison and hamburger meatballs, and a little antifreeze to wash it all down.

Sad part is I have thought about that,

Since I have called this in so many times and the dog ended up Sick or Dead, and they took the dog to the vet and were told it was poisoned and reported it, would probably come back to me

Don't punish the dog, it isn't his fault the owners don't care. Would you feed a baby rat poison if it cried and cried and the parents did nothing about it?

My in-laws had the same thing with new neighbors that moved in, they called the cops several times and they did nothing about it. We were there for Xmas and got absolutely no sleep because of this thing, it was literally right outside the bedroom windows. They ended up calling the city and filing several complaints to the city council and finally it ended up in court, but it never made it that far as that must have been enough to finally get the guy to do something about it. He still has the dog but it hardly ever barks now.

They placed a recorder by the window and would record the dog, they called the city and let them listen to it over the phone, he even had someone with the city come to the house and they sat and "visited" for quite a while, the dog barked the whole time. Now, my father in-law is not one to just call the cops and if they don't do anything about it, give up, he takes things to the next level until something gets done. He even had his lawyer involved.

Use some negative reinforcement to teach it to stop barking.

Get a sling shot, get a bag of cheap dog food; try to get the hardest you can find. Everytime it starts yapping wack it in the haunches with a piece of dog food. It learns to stop barking and eats the evidence.

I've witness that method work several times on dogs that had owners that just didn't care..

Get up at 3:30 in the morning and go pound on their door till they answer. Tell them "Your dog is barking and I was afraid there was something wrong, I'm just making sure everything is okay" Do this at random times twice a night for a week and they will do something about it. Smile and be polite, even when they get pissed. I've done this twice and it worked both times. (If the dog has you awake anyway, it's an antertaining way to spend 15 minutes)

I agree with side hiller

I know where I live the police will do something about it they gave my neighbor a ticket 2 times. they now have bark controll collars on both their dog he said the noise ordanance ticket was 2x what the collars cost .....

The dog will not stop barking, because it is bored and abused. Even if the dog is gone, they will get another one and the whole thing will start all over again. I have a neighbour and all 3 different dogs he has own over 30 years have bark steady, the nights are the worst. So the problem that needs fixing is not the dog, but if you wanted the dog to stop those barking dog collars do work.

LIke a few of ya have mentioned, I know its not the dog Fault and it is Good Lookin dog , I have always liked Labs but the big ones have a Huge echoing bark to them, especially when it sets under a metal overhead porch extension and bark directly to the back yard right next to there rear sliding glass door, you would think it would actually annoy the owners too, that is one big thing I don`t understand about people with dogs like this. How can it not bother them but yet have no neighbor courtesy to whether it bothers others,

I really don`t want to punish the Dog. But its kind like what else do I do to get any results.

I also would of figured the POS Cops around here would of issued a ticket by now, I have a neighbor who didn`t have a job, lives on State Aid also played his Thrash Grunge metal music everyday for a year since he of course had nothin better to do, and neighbors called and called on him too, and then they finaly warned him that they were going to sneak up on him while he is playing the music them ticket him. but he never got one, but did stop with the music. but the issue with the dog owners still exists and That has been since the day we moved in here. But he obviously hasn`t been fined.

I am going to call Animal Control this morning and give that a shot.

The dog is trainable. Its the owners that are probably block heads. A shock or bark collar in the right hands is a good tool to use as a part of training a dog. I have both and would gladly loan one or the other to you.

My concern is that a shock collar can be hell on a dog in the wrong hands. Have you gone to meet the owners to see if there are any lights on in their heads? Maybe one of the closest neighbors would have enough on the ball to use a collar effectively on the dog if the owners would allow it. I have been training labs most of my adult life, and I can tell you this, they hate to be shot with water. My labs swim on the beach all day, but when they bark at the UPS truck a quick shot from the Super Soaker and they are totally demoralized. Go figure. LOL.

Might arm a bordering neighbor with a Super Soaker and see if that doesn't work as well. If upon meeting these owners you get the feeling that they are concerned as well but just cant get the dog to shut up (this does happen sometimes) then PM me your info and I'll get back to ya on the collars. I've got some buddies in your area and chip trucks that go from here to there every day. Good luck man, now get some sleep. EW

Thank You, I will keep that in mind.

Talkin to them probably won`t get anywhere cause I have heard from many other neighbors that they have never been sociable or friendly to others around the nieghborhood, He is about twice my size and Would be afraid if I knocked on his door to may times at incovient times I would get Decked on his front steps, that might get him arrested, doubt he would address the issue with his dog.
