HELP... selling sled from US to Canada

Thread Rating
4.00 star(s)
us to can

Let me see if I have this right.

Lets say a guy wanted to buy a 2010 M8 in Montana. Lets say my parents own a house in Montana, have a vehical registered in Montana etc. If I were to get my parents to purchase the sled brand new from the dealership. Register the sled in the states. Then my parents sell me the sled " used " because something came up and they needed all the money they could get.... and I bring it across the border as a "used sled" what is the situation with the warranty at that point? Since it was sold to a us resident from the dealer then sold privately to a canadain " " warranty should still be valid correct? Or do they still have the capability to void the warranty even tho the sled has been registered in the states before and just because it was brought across the border?

If somebody has clerification on this specific scenario that would be great.

Thanks,
Ryan

Can anyone offer me any info on importing a sled into Canada that has built from scratch since it will not have a vin.

The "built from scratch thing"... I really dont think it would be worth the hassle... IMO.

I purchased one sled in Buckley, WA private sale of craigslist. Got US title when I paid for it. Loaded up and drove to border. Told border agent, she asked if I had copy of Craigslist add. Nope. She said "If I look on craigslist will I see the add and how much. Yep. She said "That will be 5% GST and 7%PST...thats it, no hassles. The rest was up to me if I wanted to get title in my name. All the BC border wants is there %%%%%

So what about if I want to drive up cross the boarder from the canadian side, with the intent of trading it with a sled in the US? Can I simply bring it across as mine, and "sell" it to him? By writing up a bill of sale stating I sold mine to him, then do the same for when i want to come back over with his? Just fill out a bill of sale for the purchase of his sled with his original asking price on it? No money would be exchanged. Just sleds. What happen if they want proof that I actually paid for it? Cause I didn't. I would have traded my sled for it. Should that be mentioned on the bill of sale? Or do they not care for proof of payment? Just a bill of sale, and maybe a copy of the add?

This sled also has an aftermarket tunnel/engine. I am told you can cut out the original vin and rivet it onto the new tunnel, or get the number stamped on the new tunnel. Anyone done this? I have a fifteen hour drive to the boarder so I can't exactly afford to have issues when I want to come back.

You should contact the RIV and the CBSA crossing before you even think of doing this.

My first impression is, good luck. You'll need it.

I have the phone numbers but will wait till next week to call. Today's a stat so I'm not expecting them to answer.

Ok little bit of research later, seems like it not a big deal. One question though. I hear the Kingsgate crossing can be a bad choice? Somebody had apparently had a bad experience there, and had heard other horror stories about trying to cross there as well. IS this true? Has anyone imported a sled there? I have over 20 hours to drive so I don't want any issues when I cross.
