straight up...are the handguards worth a chit? I have the stock medium windshield on my 07 summit. It keeps me warm BUT I think the sled looks pretty kick a$$ without it. Sooo, I'm thinking of running a short or no windshield and hand guards. Do they get in the way when boondocking? Please post pics of your sled with hand guards so I can get an idea of how it will look. Thanks. DD8

dont waste your money. they dont do anything to keep you warm. just put a short windshield on and that will protect your hands and keep a sporty look

I have found that they help a lot for chilly hands, won't have a sled without them. Mine don't get in the way at all.
Here is my old rev that has them and wyrider's rev does too.

When I went to this smaller windshield my hands would FREEZE on the longer, fast rides out to a favorite play area so I added these handguards and Viola...No more cold hands.

They Definately do help and no, they have never got in the way.

worthless...can't count how many guys I know that put them on only to take them off a few weeks later. They get in the way, they bend if you roll your sled (who doesn't) and I have seen more than one sled crash and go WOT into a tree because the hanguard bent and held down the throttle.

Go low profile windshield and get an extra pair of gloves

I think they work great, but do get beat up and need replaced if you roll your machine a lot:D

"we have to put them on all our XP's and they work great"

Fixed it for ya T/A.

1. Learn not to roll your sled. If you roll it enough to ruin your hand guards, go ride in an easier element.

2. How do you bend the guards around to hold the throttle wide open???

3. They work great and do not get in the way. loose the big windshield and put them on.

have to? really you HAVE to?

.......I'll leave that for you.....have fun!

2. How do you bend the guards around to hold the throttle wide open???

.......Ever roll a sled?

3. They work great and do not get in the way. loose the big windshield and put them on.

...... just loose the big windshield?.... I'd say LOSE it all together, besides they just break when you roll your sled!

If you do any technical ridin,in the trees and the such you'll HATE them. Not worth it.Buy a GOOD pair of gloves and trim that stock shield and bobs your uncle.

+1

just trim down your stock windshield, free and you get exactly the size you want

Fact is that anything that deflects the wind will keep your hands warmer.

...That said, in my experience there is only one handguard design out there that dosent get in the way, dosent break when you roll your sled, and looks nice. They are the PowerMadd handguards with the plastic clamp. The type plastic that the clamp is made of (UHMW I think)is absolutely unbreakable.
Hope this helps!

Unbreakable? Broke 2 pairs off both sides in 1 month. Maybe I just suck at riding but I do without them now. I had some Sportechs with metal frame and about broke my wrist when them hooked a tree and came back down on my hand like a clever.

Hey, shouldn't you be building stuff for me rather than chit-chatin' about hand guards?:D

i have a set, I have installed them yet. Don't know why you guys say they would be worse in the trees I'd think they would do alot better @ deflecting stuff then the stock windshield

That's the problem... they deflect stuff until the stuff deflects them.

Sometimes when you need to grab a handfull under the bars angle to get that right line but then as you go to do this you got this pile of plastic shyte in your way,then your line is done,your momentum is gone,bla,bla,bla....they suck in my OPINION.Besides look at the pro's,do you see the guards on there sleds,probably not EH.:beer;

Does anyone have close up pics of the mounts on the powermadds? I was checkin out the trail star handguards in the Hi-perf eng. catalog. $23.95 + $23.95 for mounts. Would really like to put them on but my two hangups are...

1. There is a good chance of truckin my knuckles up while bangin through the trees if I catch a heavy enough branch

2. Just like Snowyo said, may be difficult to grab a hand full when you have to reach under the bar...probably do this more than realize while turnin back uphill pickin through the trees

I guess it comes down to me not being a big *****. Either suck it up and spend the $48 bucks to try em or else grow a sack and live with the cold fingers.

Thanks for all the opinions...I'm still on the fence about this so keep the pics and the comments coming.
