I guess I'm guilty of been stupid this weekend. Put some good lines under some cliffs up Franklin. After watching this video, am I going to put a short track on my sled? NO. I bought it knowing the risk of mountain ridding. The guys i ride with, we all take precautions and try to be safe. **** happens and always will. We just got to be prepared and educated on what to do when it happens. If someone in the group aint feeling it we don't do it. I like to think I'm responsible for my friends when we ride. I know not to take someone thats not prepared for a situation to a place where their may be one. I'm not going to call someone stupid or idiot unless i change my track. To each their own. All i can say is be prepared. See you at the avy class. See you at the hills or medows. I agree, we do this because we LOVE IT!

CC it takes balls to point out the “Not so popular” points and I would agree with some of what you are saying. I will also say that there have been several others who make great points as well. So I will officially try to balance on the fence.

Perhaps more importantly I believe the pizzing and moaning amongst ourselves is ultimately going to be our demise. Looking at the video and hearing this guys account of the events, I not certain anyone who actually rides in the back country hasn’t at one time or another put themselves in very similar position. Yet instead of being thankful the man and his party are safe and then looking for things that could be done differently to prevent this in the future all too many insist on pointing out what an idiot this guy was and how careless/inconsiderate he was.

If you are bored take a look at the following link: http://www.ksl.com/index.php?nid=148&sid=5255958&comments=true

The story is about a couple of young snowboards who survived an avalanche. Read the comments from those who oppose back country use of any kind and then compare them to some of the statements made by the stone throwers on here. Not sure about anyone else but I don’t think these folks need any help in their cause?

Well Im pretty sure I would have poked that hill. I don't mind people postings their thoughts but some need to realize it is JUST YOUR OPINION!! Name calling is BS!! Why not say "WOW I wouldn't have hit that" instead of "what a f'ing moron!!"

The mormon thing was pretty funny!! I have always wondered about the casino thing....If it werent for the drinking, swearing, chewing, and prostituting I could be a Class A MORMON cause I hate to gamble:)

hindsight there. Had the thread started with an explaination of who, how etc including the background of the rider and the admission of "I made a mistake", all watch and learn... there would have been less emotion in the responses. I sure as hell never saw anything like that video.

The later to come explaination turned the thread into a great learning tool.

all's well that ends well.

oh, and "WOW I wouldn't have hit that" Really.

Same chit when Checkettes (sp) broke that one two years ago, half the people on herre were climbing that same chit that day? As far as being offended by CC get over it he may have the social grace of a brama bull but he can ride the $hit out of a snowmobile and this is a snowmobile web site and not Sundayschoolwest. Lets ride CC!

Y'all are great guys. Lets just keep everyone around for a few more years by making sound decisions. After all that is what this thread is all about...I guess. That way we can keep the occasional bantering and flow of opinions alive and well. ;)

Deep do you know how big of a dick head your coming off right now? You probably just "clicked" hot thread huh? Well azz hat most of the jabs on here are between good friends not cyber buddies. Some of the guys your taking pot shots at have dug buddies out, some have ended well others not. So get off your fu ck ing pulpit and quit preaching to the choir? Oh wait you've been trained by the US government...You are the best you can be and all us poor civilians need to bow down and kiss your a$$? Go sell crazy somewhere else we got plenty here.

you cant get anymore sledding experience than that, 40 years ??? are you kidding me how long have sleds been around ? 50? 55? (years)
I'd like to see any of these dumbf#cks ride that much for that long and even survive !
This guy is a badass for posting this !

"No matter what you know or learn about avy's it is guess work at best...not even a caluculated risk it is a fricken calculated guess at best."

This statement is not true. The actual physical structure of the snowpack can tell you when you are more likely to trigger avalanches.

This year compared to last year at this same time are perfect examples. Last year at the end of January we had a deep and stable snowpack. The base layers were like cement bricks that you could drive a car on. I felt very comfortable getting onto big steep slopes. This year we have a thin week snowpack with weak snow near the ground. It's like trying to balance a car on top of potato chips. I can't feel good about a lot of the large slopes yet this year. Continued avalanche activity correlates well with the poor structure with almost all of the avalanches I visit breaking into the weak snow near the ground.

The areas with thinner snow cover such as the Skyline area and the Uintas have the worst snowpack structure.

Have patience. Things may improve but they may not either. Weather will dictate. If you're getting onto the big slopes at least put only one person on them at a time and don't watch from the runnout zones.

I am confused. I Usually am. Deep is saying that the act that day was unsafe.
a lot of folks agreed. I did. The camera man said he made a mistake and first posted it w/o any expalaination as I recall. went back and did explain it. all learned from it. Kev, I am confused. We all know we bust balls of our friends here and we all want the same thing. safe rides and LOTS of them.

blood pow whatever... i have 40 years on sleds. I say it was a dumb climb... AND so does the expert who did it. I suggest all go back and read it ALL. and relax for Gosh sake...
