That guy got his azz handed to him on Mountain/Deep Powder. I just hope they learned from the experience and I'm glad he posted it.

Maybe that's a good reason to carry some spare underwear. LOL

Ride to Live and Live to Ride.:D That's not how it's done.:(

GP, Please put this over in General and these chumps will get the lashing they NEED to live. Some of the suggestions are helpful and a couple of the idiots comments were unreal. all I see are the names of future victims. :(

I am with you rockstar. I can't believe how irresponsible some of these folks are and the comments they are making. The sad thing is it is still happening in our own backyard as well.:(

Wow.. Just WOW...

So lucky that he was able to ride out of it.. And that's what it was.. luck.. that he could ride across the break line twice and not get tossed off the sled or hit a newly exposed rock is really luck..

Rock, Sunridge, Duner and I rode places yesterday that I've never seen the real slope and rocks in the winter.. they are all exposed right now because of the natural slides.. no tracks on those hills.. no room between the exposed rocks.. They are south and southeast slopes.. usually very safe places to play.

If the "safe" slopes have been sliding what does that say about the north and north east slopes.. what about wind loading..

I own 3 great mountain sleds that will be riden in the trees and flats.. I can't say that I'm bummed about that because I'm happy, worn out, and sore this morning from a great two days of riding..

Kim, which way through the trees now???:D

I posted this on his thread, and I still dont get it. Maybe someone can help me understand.

I guess I just don't understand.

Evil Kanevial and every other freestyle motorcrosser these days does stunts where they cheat death, yet we fill the stands and cheer!!

NASCAR drivers and every other motorsport racer cheats death and yet again, we fill the stands and cheer!!

What about the NFL playoff game when the guy got pulled off on a stretcher after getting hit, we fill the stands and cheer!!

A snowmobiler does what he loves, cheats death and we burn him at the stake.

I dont get it. No one wants to see anyone die, but most of us snowmobile because it is an EXTREME sport and we love the adrenaline rush. Take precautions, enjoy the sport we all love and let people make their own decisions, they are the ones who have to take responsibility and own up to their mistakes.

Its no different than being a cop. They go out every day with the fact that they could be killed on duty, yet they continue to go to work because they love it. How about a soldier?? All of these people had a choice, and they chose to risk their life for something they love to do.

Anyways, I am sure I will be tied to the stake after this.

You know, staying off the hills really isn't a challenge for me. I'd rather boondock and play in the trees anyday!:D An occasional hillclimb is ok, but it's not a huge disappointment not to climb. Personally I think it takes a little more skill to boondock and ride in the trees than to point and shoot a hill. :p

Are you serious? Really?

You are comparing cops and soldiers to snowmobiling???? The choose to put their life at risk to protect the public. A snowmobiler who chooses to climb during a higher risk snowpack selfishly puts others at risk of death as well as himself. Not the same at all.

ccpowder I think your post is good and has solid points. It's all true. I think a lot of peeps are just a little freaked out this year.

Corey, LOL. I need tent stakes, got any? I kinda agree and that is what makes this an interesting place. i never did understand those who cheer for destruction. And those TV shows where people really look to get getting hurt, I can't watch. go figure. ON the other hand, I know you. I know YOU know where and how to ride. It isn't just chance w/you. I'd ride in your shadow any day all season and feel I was not being foolish. (except trying to keep up) :) The people making stupid who cares comments are far from as talented and educated as you in my opinion. You are smart and experienced. many of them just have no clue. I stick to my opinion of those folks. Let's ride! We were up in the Lakes yesterday. LOTs to hit!

I agree everyone has to make their own choices and deal with those consequences, But you can't compare the choice of risking your life by serving/protecting your country to the choice of risking your life pulling a sweet climb that may or may not come down on you. There is nothing honorable about dying in an AVY that could of been avoided.

It's more like Russian Roulette

Why not?? I could have chose to be a cop or a soldier?? My dad is a retired firefighter. And I never said what was honorable or not, just that people have a choice to do something that risks their life.

If a freestyler gets killed trying a backflip in front of 100,000 fans, do you think he would get hammered like this?? How about a downhill skier who dies during the Olympics, would he/she take this kind of abuse?? I think its stupid to try a backflip on a motorcycle or go 100 MPH on solid ice.

Not taking a side, just dont understand. Its kind of like the circus. People who were not the norm were treated like crap, put out for other peoples amusement. Now days we call them basketball players and pay them millions.

Are the rocks covered?? Went to Guardsman on Saturday, never seen the snow that low this time of year!!

And I agree Doug, there are lots of idiots, we see them every day on the road when we ride our motorcycles!! In fact, I am more scared of dumbass drivers killing me then an avalanche!! I think people should learn from this kind of stuff, but dont judge the guy, we have all been there and done it. 5 to 10 years ago, we climbed everything we could all year and never even considered an avalanche, much less had beacons, shovels or probes. One of the biggest problems is the sleds we have today get us where we have never been before.

CC, I agree with you in regard to it being the individuals choice...the difference, however, is that when a snow-sport enthusiast (I'm considering ALL backcountry snow sports) recklessly plays on a dangerous slope and triggers an avalanche, they are not just putting their own life in danger. Their riding partners are at risk, their rescuers are at risk, and often time strangers who are in the area are at risk.

The extreme sports riders are only puting their own life at risk.

Additionally, it's no consolation to the families and loved one's left behind that they died in an avalanche, knowing it could have been avoided, just because they died "doing something they loved"???? That is a total cop-out...and very selfish.

Personally, I will never knowingly ride with someone with that attitude...and we ONLY ride the mountains/backcountry.

Let stupid be as stupid are....

Stats show you are more likely to die in your rig getting to and from the snow park....

AND Yes with the right education this can be prevented most of the time.....
drivers ed is supposed to do the same fo our roads......

I agree with ccpower,
some people play golf,
some people strap them self in a jet power car

these are choices you make and live with.....I think every person is entiled to make their own choices? Granted there are some restrictions and consideration to everything...like family ect...

I am glad this was posted for our education and as reminder to the danger we all put ourselvs in, inculding driving down the freeway with our educated drivers....
