Having an RPM problem...need trouble shooting.

take the reeds out and fill em with h2O and if they leak, they are bad.
you may be right about the top rpm also, I was thinking powervalves!

If it was powervalves.. it wouldnt even make it that far in R's though would it???

When mine went on my 02' it wouldnt even hardly run over 6 grand.

If you didn't change anything and all of sudden it appeared, I would suspect electrical.

IF you changed the jets, changed clutching etc., then that is likely your culprit. You re-did the motor so its not a ring or anything like that, I would suspect electrical or too much/not enough pipe heat.

Generally, the hotter your pipe gets, the farther up the power curve your max HP goes (i'm sure you know this Scott). But you said that it ran with these pipes before and ran good, which makes me think its not that. But did you block the vents in and now its getting too hot?

Hope you get it fixed, summer's coming.....

Well, I am messing with my secondary helix right now. I only changed clutching before this started. Might have too much finish angle, as suggested by turbotater.

GOT IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Secondary clutch.

Can't believe that 2° on the helix would make that much difference.

Went from a cat 52/48 to a Heel-X straight 46°.

And the beast is ALIVE!!!!!!!!!!

Gotta find a 52/44 and the bottom end will still hole shot hard, and the top end will shift out.

I also left about .75" of a red marker line on the primary...it didn't shift out all the way.
Just need to reshim the secondary, or replace my belt. That outta do it, right?

Congrats, it is no fun chasin problems, also, I am a bit confused.

k..... if you had a 52/48 in it and it didnt run for crap, why are you looking for one to put back in????

Also, when you went through the clutching last year, did you just change the helix(same angle) or was the 52/48 something you were trying?

Your a smart guy(or at least appear that way), why didnt you realize when you switched helix angles, that it could have that affect? Guess when you posted I thought you just put in a new helix and didnt switched angles.

I had no idea that 2° would cause that much of a problem.

I HAD a 56/48, but a green SnoPro spring. I switched to a 52/48 with a Tison red/white.

That caused a big diff, I guess. Obviously.

Again glad you got it runnin in tip top shape. As I stated before, it has to be the longest runnin PSI motor in good health, in history......

Yah, we saw some crazy stuff like that when we tunned my 860... little changes, made a big difference. I learned a lot in that whole process...

motor

And this may sound the silliest of all. But had a sled that ran great at end of year. Started it the next year and did not want to hold rpm's. Found out that a mouse had built a small nest in one of the pipes and was causing a restriction. And yes the sled was stored inside.

I've heard of that too. I remember a story about a mouse nest in the airbox and carb throats.
