Have you noticed the iron that is for sale and CHEAP!

WOW, just was glancing over the Polaris for sale section and there are ALOT of high end modded sleds for sale cheap! If you are or were even thinking of a used sled its a buyers market.

This must be due to the unloading of old iron getting ready for the new chassis. Heck I think there were at least 5-6 T800's listed there!

I've been telling everyone I know for the last 3 months that if you're planning on buying a sled in the next couple years, then buy now. The dealers still have alot of inventory for low prices that is also attributing to the low used prices.

I've noticed - I'm trying to sell my D8. I think my sled is priced well with the stuff on it. I still think if a guy rides it he will be very impressed with the power.

I can't believe the guys with turbos that haven't had their sled for a year yet. Those prices are about what a turbo alone cost a few years back! If mine were turboed, I'd have to keep it.

They don't seem like that good of deals. I have a friend with cash looking to buy but most of the sellers still want a lot for their sleds. Basically, everyone wants the retail used price for the sled. Also some sellers think they will get more for their sleds next season which doesn't seem to make sense since it will be a year older by then.

I do see a lot of turbos for sale but why? Were the turbos just too much power for most or did they require too much tuning? Just curious why a lot of guys are selling their turbos to snowcheck a 140hp sled.

IT is always tough to figure out what to list a mod sled for. I took it in the shorts for my last one. The best thing I did was take as many of the stock parts off..this applies for Harleys and other custom cruiser bikes also...none the less with the aftermarket goodies on the machine one is lucky to get 25-30 cents on the dollar. You can sell the aftermarket parts (save the stock stuff) and get closer to 50 cents on the dollar has been my experiance. At a crazy snow show you might even get more as it is a shoppers frenzie at times.

Because of the deep depreciation it makes it tough to just give a mod sled away. Hind site being 20/20 I should have keept the mod SkiDoo for a back up..oh well. Currently you also have to take into account the down economy..powersports in general have had a tough time. Some down 30-80% of privious years.

The only odd thing is that even with a down economy and companies struggling in the powersports market I dont see prices dropping much.

for me it is pretty simple. i am a way better rider than mechanic and there is no more challenge with a turbo unless it is all about insane chutes. Which are fun, but not the whole story to my riding style.

That's it! Just look at what cars are going for in the Barrett auction.

I agree 100%.

As for the sellers trying to hold there ground they will be holding more than that if they maintain that direction. Heck one guy in our group bought a 10 model 163 snowcheck LAST month for 8900!

Yep, I just picked up a snowcheck '10 model 155 0 miles on Friday for $8208:face-icon-small-hap Leaves that much more for mods!

That's about $1000 less than I paid last year. I thought I had a good deal for someone. 700 miles 09 with Fox Evol shocks, camo extreme track, PCV, high compression head/stock pipe mod plus stock pipe/head/weights for $7600.

Oh well, if it doesn't see beginning of next year, I'll just keep it another year.

used sleds arent selling at all! it would cost a guy 25+thousand to build my sled not including labor, even getting a good deal on a sled to begin the build and the best offer i have received is 10k. its a joke. so it looks like i'm keepin it for a back up

That is the truth, I have well over 25k in my sled and had only a few calls on it. One guy really wanted it but could not come up with the funds. I have it priced very fair and there is no point giving it away, I will just mod it some more, get it even lighter and keep riding it. I do know that when I buy a New RMK it will get a Turbo too. But I believe that the low prices are also a result of the amount of 08-10 Dragons on the market currently, a lot of folks want to sell the old sled to help defray the cost of the new one, but I do not see selling a sled so cheap that you loose more than a new sled costs.

I'm in the same boat. Thing is, everyone is expecting stuff to sell for so much cheaper than before because of the economy. I'm not selling my sled because I lost my job or am in desperate need of money. I do need to sell it to offset the cost of the new Pro RMK sled I ordered. I will keep my sled and to 0% financing on the new sled to hold me over until I sell this. I just don't want to make payments on my sleds.

I really think the 4M hurt Polaris resale. You would think every Polaris blew up. Truth is, my D7 or D8 never blew up! We have 2 other D8 sleds and an Assault (with no update) and none of those have blown up either. I don't know anyone personally with a blown up sled. I'm not saying it is a myth, but once a motor blows it is amplified 10 times here on the 4M.

Everytime the manufactures introduce a completely new designed sled the older ones take a hit on the resale price.

The economy definitely does have an effect on what people do with their toys. Buyers don't want to give anything, sellers are looking for top dollar. Same thing is true for parts in the swap forums. As far as the forums giving Polaris a bad name - I'll suggest Polaris has given Polaris a bad name. No, not every one blows up, but I can tell you my "updated" motor has a pair of pistons that look worse after 1 season than what I've seen come out of motors that have 10000+ miles. Still debating whether I should buy a new set out of my own pocket just to feel comfortable about my chances of getting it through next season. This really is my sled ('08 800), not some phoney internet story cooked up to bash Polaris.

D8's need boost... it makes them much happier. no issues with mine ever as far as the motor goes... nor with the other 5 we have built. but looking at the swap i wouldnt say hardly anybody is asking top dollar for their used sleds... i'm asking less than 50% of what it would cost a guy to build my sled if he did ALL of the labor himself... rough guess its about 30-50hours worth minimum, and still nothing. i blame the economy more than anything... and the pro-rmk's for being so awesome!

We all know that no sled has too much power. I still chuckle when I read a seller stating that he is selling because the sled has too much power. Might be cheaper for them to turn down the boost and run cheaper pump gas or just let off the flipper till you stop screaming.

As far as selling a boosted sled for a 140hp sled the answer is simple. Just like the one you are selling, it won't stay 140hp for long. For me I really enjoy the build and the results. There are always new toys besides the base sled every year like suspension, venting, track, controls, graphics, stuff like that which makes each new sled project a new experience.

I would love to sell my T D8 right now to start planning a new build, but I can see I would take a beating so I haven't even posted it. I may put it back to stock and take the beating on a $5-$6 sled and try to do better on all the goodies. That may be fruitless as well but I'm hoping names like Boondockers, Z-Broz, EZ-Ryde, Camoplast, Avid, Skinz, Koso, Fire n Ice, SLP, Indy Dan, Hi-Tech Engineering, Fastrax, RSI, and Wildchild are worth more in a shipping box that they seem to be attached to a dialed in sled. I guess I'll know soon enough. A great time to buy for sure. EW
