Has anyone had luck fixing belt issues on XP yet.

I have an 146 XP and it still blows belts 5 belts in 550km. So what have you guys done to improve the belt issues. Also has anyone tried the Goodwin Industries jackshaft conversion kit so that you can use the old secondaries / team clutches.

Gear down to a 20 or 21 top, and put one 25mm or 2 12mm screws in the pins and your belt problems will be gone unless you have a motor alignment issue. The regear should be covered by BRP and while your dealer is doing that have them make sure the motor is aligned and throw the weight in the pins for ya too.

I did the same as MT_mtn_climber. From new, I geared my 154X down to a 20T upper and installed 12mm & 6mm screws in the primary and have not blown a belt(as a matter of fact, I'm still running the stock belt) in 560 miles. So far so good.... BTW: all of the 560 miles have been logged in the Togwotee area.

No issues with proper settup....which is NOT the factory settup. And alignment of course, which is dealers responsibility. Make sure alignment is correct and primary rollers and bushings are in good condidion (both are only good for 4-500 miles). PM me for settup info.:beer;

I blew a belt every 50-75 miles for the first 400 miles. Aligned the clutches, they were way off and got the 377 belt. Over 300 miles on the 377 now and it still looks new.

Ok I just spoke with a doo engineer at the Minneapolis Ski-doo show...

I did a post on the dootalk in the XP Mountain forum with all the details..

Here is in a nut shell from the doo engineer

The 377 is a REALLY good band-aid fix.

The issues of blowing belts is the primary on some sleds is out of wack. There was a issue with the supplier of the cast pieces that hold the engine in and it is out of spec.

BRP has got MORE excuses than...

These guys have a new excuse every time you turn around and bend over for a new $100+ belt....last year it was incorrect primary, secondary clutch clearances, faulty clutch parts blah, blah, blah. This season it's engine mounts. Instead of the damn sno-check jacket(GAY and has NEVER left the bag it came in), I'll take the optional 6 pack of belts!

Team secondary conversion

To answer your question about the jackshaft conversion.....I am currently running a Team secondary on my 154 X. I ran the QRS for about the first 600 miles and had no issues. I installed 18 grams pin-weight, vents, etc from day one. Ran the original 166 belt. It consistantly pulled 50-53 mph track speed while climbing. I then went to the Team and now pull 47 mph while climbing. I like the serviceability of the Team and easier cleanup around the clutches but to be honest I would not waste the money next time. I'm still searching for a better set-up and feel I don't have enough spring in the primary and secondary. I'll be happy if I can get it to work as good as the QRS. All the QRS needs is that billet adjuster that Billy the hillbilly makes. The ultimate set-up would be a splined QRS and the conversion jackshaft for more adjustability with the primary alignment.

Cheers

Careful, dealer said mine was in spec. but he didn't like it..neither did I . I drilled the rear clutch mount and slide the motor in to get rid of the dogleg in the belt. Cooler clutch now.

I made a couple of the torque arm braces to go between the front shock tower and jackshaft tower for a friends 163 X and 154 X and that along with 42/33 dalton helix made a huge improvement on a week trip to CO. They didn't go through any belts.
At the Mpls 09 snow show the doo tech guy said the fix was the 377 belt and a 43/47 helix ?

Good Luck

gearing down was the best change i did to reduce belt heat

the TEAM thing is a big time rip IMO, DJ offers a really great helix and BRPs 33/44 is good enough, DJs helix has that wicked back shift i like

I've had a few XP's in the shop now and every one that has come in the engine is out of alignment, the one was blowing the new 377 belt,it was way out,so I aligned the motor as much as I could and the belts quit blowing and the performance got better.

I went into the Ski Doo shop and he starts telling me that they're supposed to be out like that, it's way they come.

The left rear motor mount needs to be slotted,or the rear clutch needs to be movable. The couple of guys that have the secondary kit have perfect alignment and very little if not zero belt issues.

waita go linc, i always wondered why you spent so much energy bashing ski doo, til i found that you owned a yamaha dealership, now if they are so bad and you learn how to dial them in, think how much money you will make

i've gone threw 1 belt , on my 163 x . take the platic cover off the clutch's , gear it down to a 19 top , add a holz vent ,

on the muff side there is a plastic guard between the pipe , stinger , what have you and the motor, it has 4 , 8mm screw's take that off . also at the bottom of the handle bar's just in front of the gas cap ,is a foam thing'y you can take out for more air flow , it looks like a puzzel piece just grab it with a pair of plyers , comes right out

I still bash em,but they still work well, hell, even the owners bash em,but you can't ignore how well they work when they work,so I'll just try to make them work better.
