guns and sledding

lcp 380 with a desantis pocket holster... it's lite and easy to carry. i keep it with me while hunting as a backup.

i wasn't there but the guy in the video did what he thought it took to keep himself safe. moose are the most dangerous big game animals in north america and that one was pissed. plus go pro's make it hard to judge distances so the moose could have been much closer than it looked , sad for sure but if it's me or an animal it ain't going to be me

Well he's an idiot...so "what he thinks" doesn't mean much to me lol. Calf moose stuck on a trail, and he didn't even try backing up, turning around or anything. Been in that exact scenario with full size moose on my dirtbike twice and all was fine. Give them space and time. If you think something needs to die everytime you feel "threatened"...we're just on a totally different page. TONS of people in my area work solo in remote bush areas for their entire career without a gun and no one ever gets killed by wildlife....its about being smart, not shooting stuff cause you get scared easily.

People actually drown every year while snowmobiling, or even just driving (as opposed to these hypothetical scenarios)....do you carry a PFD in your sled and truck? Y'know...just in case?

Once again. I'm not defending the dip chit! I see several ways out of the situation from the camera view. We where not there, to me it looks like he rode towards the moose. Dip chit move!!! I spend a lot of time in the woods. I've been withing 10 feet of a bear before we realized O'Chit. I do pack a gun and know how to use it responsibly. I do not believe guns are bad. Its the person behind it that can make us responsible people look bad

jay i would have to do something different myself because i don't carry a gun. but every time someone on here talks about guns that video comes up. i'm not going to sit here and call the dip **** because i wasn't there and from a video i can't tell what the heck the situation was . i went round and round with a few libs on snowest 2 year ago about this same video . and my feelings haven't changed . he did what he had to do to go home .i shouldn't have gotten involved in this again.

Totally...And I have nothing against guns specifically...I do a little hunting each fall (strictly food related), shoot skeet here and there, etc. I don't personally use them for anything else....but others that do, go nuts. I think it's a completely pointless thing to bring on a sled...but thats just MO.

I DO see them as a big problem for situations like this....when you have someone trigger happy who is easily scared coming across a wild animal in the woods (OMG who would have thought), and something dies for no good reason.

Not sure if I'm a lib or not...depends what day and what issue I suppose, but I'm very confident (like 100%) both would have gone home alive that day if he would have stopped advancing on the (baby) moose and just left it alone. Not a "me or you" scenario in my eyes....as I have "survived" that exact scenario (much larger moose, no gun).

those guys i got into it with cared so deeply for the moose but cared nothing for the guy that shot it .as they wished he would have been killed , so i'm not talking about a little off center these dudes were way left . i just don't want to judge the guy to harshly. and from reading and agreeing with you on most the stuff you post on here think you would do about the same. i'm not saying your a lefty any more than i am . i'm conservative on most stuff but not all by all means .

Jay.

I'm not really taking what mtncat1 said as he agreed with the situation. I took out of it as he would go home before an animal.

I've never shot an animal or a person in fear of my life.

I do have some cool EXPENSIVE toys :face-icon-small-hap
Last winter drove up to see how the snow was coming along.

No person or animals wear harmed in the making of this video :face-icon-small-sho

I made the mistake of commenting on that video once.... For every 1 Canadian there are 10 Americans. I lost that argument.

In Canada we carry shotguns with 3 inch magnum slugs...helps for extra boost when climbing

when we ride and camp the far North during the summer... exactly what we carry (legally from the states, $25 dollar fee) but not so much for climbing but for if the bear spray does not keep the bears away... so far the only injuries have been from the zillion mosquitoes

It may be a good idea to check the laws concerning carrying a firearm on a snowmobile for the state you are riding. For example in SD, state law requires a firearm carried on a snowmobile must be unloaded and in a case.

I am sure that is only if you are hunting same law applies to a auto but you can with conceal and carry.

Needing a gun and not having it is like needing a parachute and not having it you probably won't need it again.I prefer to error on the side of caution.

I have a CCW and carry most everywhere. I have never needed it and nobody knows I have the CCW or carry a gun. I carry it dirtbiking, snowbiking,....again pretty much everywhere. Nobody I ride with knows I carry, but few people I ride with know I carry a full patch kit, a full set of tools, an extra inner tube, an emergency blanket and poncho, extra food etc. The only reason people know what I have in my supplies is when we need something. I hope nobody ever knows I have a gun on me more than I hope to not change or patch anymore tubes on the trail. In all honesty I feel as most do here that my gun is probably the most useless tool in my camelback, but I am leaving my truck somewhere un-watched for hours, I would rather carry the extra pound or whatever than let it get into the wrong hands if my truck was broken into. I live in Nevada, our rules are pretty open but I am very close to California and their rules are not. Part of their transporting deal is whatever vessel you are transporting the gun in can not be permanently attached to the vehicle. There are loop holes O-plenty and I have a very functional work around but having a safe permanently attached to my floor will not work for me.

Nobody but my wife knows I carry, I will continue to keep it that way and do everything in my power to avoid ever having to pull it out or use it.

Is it dumb that I have it if you never know? kind of like the if a tree falls in the forest kind of question.
