Chains

Yes, you will chain up more often than not at Greenwater.
If you are proficient at it you won't take more than 10 minutes of YOUR time and will save the masses HOURS of their time as we saw today. If you go here bring and use your chains - all four truck tires and if you are towing an enclosed trailer, 3 place or bigger, please use drag chains on the trailer as well. The 12% grade is nothing to mess with and even if you think you can make it all it takes is one vehicle in front of you that makes you stop forward progress and it's over for you too.
Greenwater is a great place for family rides and more, you just have to be prepared.

I personally hope they leave the lower gate open as long as possible. Sucks having to ride the road that far in and once they close it - it's damn near spring before they open it - then you are riding on ice and bare pavement in places the rest of the season.

The bypass just weeds out the people that know how to drive it ( and read ths conditions of it) , and the people that don't , and aren't prepared. Wish those people would not even attempt it. Nothing worse than getting 1/2 way up it and someone has jacked it up for ya.

These guys nailed it bring chains and know how to use them. Don't be surprised to see someone jack knifed on the hill trying to put chains on. Greenwater is a great place to ride just being selfish, be nice if less folks went there Chained up in greenwater October 24th this year up on greens pass.

How come there is no pictures of the carnage? You guys should really take pics and post them here. Maybe get people more motivated to use chains and not end up on the "wall of shame" ... lol

good point. I hope they leave the gate open as well. It saves more fuel for riding off trail instead on the groomed road. I will have my camera ready but hope I dont have to use it.
