Greenwater

last one at the second gravel pit

We were up there as well, when we came down they were blocking off the road and plowing the snowpark and road in. THe snow was coming down and we had about 10+ inches on our truck while there.

I expect baseless powder on Saturday, we will see.

My sled is the M1000 in the previous post, parked in front of the cabin

Greenwater update

Was up today, Sunday 12/9, was nice in the morning, turned to rain afternoon. Some butt nuggets in their jeeps were driving on the trail past the sno-park getting stuck and rutting it all to hell. real rough, gate still closed before meadows until they start grooming next weekend. Snow level going up to 4000', may be crappy for a bit down low until it cools again.

Just had a great sat up at greenwater and i believe they were just about to open the gate (last gate before cabin) a word of caution now as i was at the halfway point a guy was stuck on the ice hill and chaining up in middle of road and i couldn't get arond him, just found out takes 4 tire chains to get the 1 ton flatbed dodge with a sled on the deck too with posi front and rear with great snow tires moving on that hill in ice while towing that 24 ft trailer (loaded) so all last year never chained it up (except when slightly stuck on a corner) so be advised make shure you have chains and they fit (mine do) got a feeling with all the new snow this week we will be parking at the bottom anyway.

Speaking of Greenwater and Icy hills...Ive read horror stories over the years about the Matterhorn, etc.

Just how bad is it? Can you just park somewhere below it and ride to the riding areas?

If not, when chaining up...this hill bad enough you have to chain up all wheels on your 4x4?

What about chaining up the 20foot enclosed trailer? Is it gonna slide sideways and meet me on the way down?

Weve always wanted to ride our sleds up there but it always sounds like a huge pain in the butt to get to the off load area...

Any info would be appreciated. :yo:

No you can't ride around the matterhorn. It's not worth it, if you don't have chains go ride somewhere else. The trees are getting to big there anyways. Just ride stampede. Have seen so many rigs totaled on that hill.

Agreed, Chains are a must for greenwater. I went up sat. and people were stuck at 10:00 in the morning and we had to help people out at 10:00 at night when we were on our way out. We made it with very aggressive new tires with an open trailer with only two sleds but the new chains will be purchased on Monday. There is still some great riding up there still The lower gate should close soon looking at the forcast and you will then ride over the hill instead of drive.
side note they just opened the gate up at the cabin

if you just chain up u shouldnt have any trouble, its th ones that dont chain then have problems that plug the road up , just use some common sense and you'll be good .
