Good News - WAHOO! Greenwater got more snow - over a foot of new stuff at the gravel pit. Sunday driving out was packed snow the 410
Other News - the snow park has been moved back down to the lower bathrooms. The "gravel" pit became the "snow" pit with just about every person going in there getting stuck and nobody wants to start their day being stuck. I received an e-mail from Mary at the FS today and she said that they have moved the snow park back down.
The road all the way in now is covered with snow and grooming will once again start at the snow park (instead of the 12% grade as it was done last week).
So you all know the grooming contract runs out at the end of March as it has done every year. Reasons for not grooming beyond that date is, money and state liability insurance.
We can all get in to the discussion again about grooming contracts etc, but Jet Johnson has done a great job explaining it. The state budget dictates how much money can be spent on grooming, it is not how much the contract is bid at. R&R can tell them its $100k for the season and they come back and say based on your trail system milage you only get $70k so make it work. If you have issue with it, contact your legislators, WSSA etc and try to work out a better solution - Get Involved!
As for pay to park for our recreation, personally I think that is an excellent choice. Other states/countries have it. Works similar to a parking meter - you have a central station pay box that only takes credit/debit cards only (no cash) and if you don't get your little picece of paper to stick in your car window then you get a much larger ticket. And yes I have contacted the state and DNR and suggested this for year round use (Snow season goes to Sleds, dirt season goes to Offroad). If you think its a good idea to help our sport, I suggest you do the same thing.
