GreenWater - gate closed - WTF?

Couple of buddies of mine went up FR70 this morning and the gate was closed at the bottom of the bypass. WTF? They did not even unload - too skimpy amount new snow and too hard on brand new sleds. This is truly amazing - they close that thing at the drop of a hat. Forest Service seriously needs to pull their heads out. They close that thing about as quick as the DOT closes Snoq. Pass anymore.

Edit - there was not a flake of snow on the ground where the gate was closed - try riding on that! They ran into two with the FS on the way out. They said their boss said to keep it closed " for safety reasons " they said - whatever that means.

I called the FS but just get machines. It's going to be another long season if the gate is closed most of it !

yeah this is getting old, i went up a couple of weeks ago to check conditions and the road was a solid sheet of ice, it hadnt been plowed or anything. they pulled this s last year, would love to know why they cant get it together?!

some people and the forest service wanted a gate at the bottom to keep the ill prepared from causing havic on the 12 %. I just talked to a snojammer and it hasn't been plowed yet. Was told there wasnt enough snow to plow yet. Ean with the forest service makes the call to lock the gate. If people would be more prepared this wouldn't be such a problem. The weekend of the 10th a guy pulling a 4 place only chained the front, set e brake and got out and slid down jacknifing the truck and trailer:face-icon-small-con. Sheriff and a tow truck showed up for the monkey show. It took 3 hrs for friends to get home. I'm glad i woke up at 0430 and left. Chained all 4 to get out.

what day and time is this meeting at clems? i am interested.

i second the being prepared comments. the 12% grade is a seat puckerer for sure. i carry chains for my suburban and my trailer, only had to chain up 2x last season.

good tires, preperation and common sense go along ways, but this isnt one of those areas 2 out of 3 doesnt cut it.

Not to sound like a prick and I'm sure I will get flamed for this, but if they don't do something to protect the safety of people, sooner or later, somebody will bring up a lawsuit because they tried to go up there, rig hit some ice on that grade, slid down and they got injured. Plain and simple, some people go after the deep pockets and don't assume liability upon themselves. I'm afraid we will all be seeing this more as more people are suing the state and feds.

I am most certain that is the main reason for sure. Wish some of that concern would have been considered when building it vs. protecting the stream along the old road.
By-pass just takes a little common sense to drive is all - unfortuanately there are some that lack that !!

same ole same ole every year anymore as far as this discussion goes.

I'm glad that you didn't take my post as being an A-Hole. It just reminds me of what is going on now with USFS. On the news a few nights ago, the parents of that 9 yr. old girl that died is suing the USFS because they didn't warn of the "possible" dangers of the ice caves. This world is becoming so lawsuit happy that the extreme things are happening to cover everyone's ***. I'm a state employee and I see some of the tort claims that are out there.... absolutely riduculous.

the problem is you can't fix stupid, but you can avoid greenwater. If I remember right its on tues at like 7 but not positive. you should ask Dan Johnson or call clem they both can tell you for sure. I went to one meeting and I was glad I went. I got a lot of info and it answered my questions. its alot better the bitching on here. It doesn't get you anywhere. If you do go to the meeting Don't be an a-hole about it, be respectful you will realize that they are all good people they just have to do what they do for reasons we are not aware of. Most of it is for safety and there is nothing safe about that road

True Dat---The Matterhorn SUCKS!!!!!

I have been on that road when you could have been in a tank and it would have been sliding around---I was glad I did not have a trailer!!

snowmobilers bring it on themselves

Here is the reason the gate was closed all last week the snow park was moved up to the gravel pit to try to help them have snow to ride on, but some snowmobilers and some of the genral public decided to unbolt the sigh and throw the barakes in the ditch. so they put them back up several times trying to get the snowmobilers to park at the gravel pit. but on
saturday night some one again removed the barackeds and drove up to the end so the FS decided that they would lock the gate because of the barcades being removed all the time HE TICKETED SEVERAL POEPLE so today the groomer came up and groomed the 3 inches of solid ice on the road to remove the rutes in the center of the road in hopes that poeple will still chain up to get to the uper snowpark. SO BLAME THE RENAGADE SNOWMOBILERS

from R&R

Here is an update on greenwater the gate is open at the bottom using the upper snopark

but it can be closed at any time if the road becomes unsafe. please carry chains and us them do not be the one that closes the road.

Thank you
R&R Grooming

also the groomer meetings are the first monday of each month, so this next monday at clems,
dan

Schedule change for the grooming meeting

Dan is correct that the meeting is usually the first Monday of the month. Starting at 7 PM.
Unfortunately, we will probably have to move it this month to the SECOND monday of the month, since this coming Monday is a holiday for most people.

Sorry for the late notice.

just cant fix stupid

Well leave it to a snowmobiler who did not bring his chains and got turned around and in the ditch FS decided to close the road again just cant fix stupid

People that can't drive that road and carry chains need to just stay away from it. Minority screwing it up the majority.

So are we to believe that everytime someone goes in the ditch FS is going to close it? That's BS too. How about everyone is responsible for their own actions ( in a perfect world!).

Yes it will because just like the ice caves if the FS has a known danger and does not address the issue, and some dip**** not using chains or just stupid and has an accident the FS could be lieble for letting the public use the road when they new to keep you safe would be to close the road. thank lawyers for this new way of life.

EXACTLY!
UNFORTUNATLY PEOPLE ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR ACTIONS ANY LONGER!

AND COMMON SENSE ISNT SO COMMON ANYMORE.

ITS A SHAME THAT PEOPLE WHO CAN AFFORD SLED BUY THEM AND GO UP THERE WITHOUT ANY CLUE ON WHAT THEY ARE DOING. BUT WE RUNN INTO THIS IN WHEELING AND ON THE LAKES AS WELL. OH WELL, I THINK I WAS BORN ABOUT 40 YEARS TO LATE SOMETIMES.
