Got spanked by an alpine turbo today- suggestions??

You should of bought an cr m10. It is the only skid that works to keep the front end down. Turn that nitro down to 10 lbs and he would have troubles keeping up with you. 6 lbs make a huge difference on any machine. What skid was in the nitro? The 174 is only 6 inches longer footprint or 1 extra paddle in the snow.

he had a 174x 2.5" and he only got about 50' higher than me
FYI- Throttle was Pinned

also my turbo is the Garret 2871-2

Not trying to be a smartarse (well, maybe just a little...lol)

You seem to be answering your own question....Another M ..longer track(and skid) and he climbed higher. It kinda answers part of your question.

Since you have so much adjustment, why not move the suspension down in back or? To get less wheelie on the extreme, then you can adjust to a lower setting for the rest of your riding.

so u guys are saying lower hole

If I switch to the lower hole, it should help keep the skis down

It's my opinion that the 162 is not long enough at 10 pounds. No matter how you set your suspension. That is if you like to climb in the steep and deep. If you look at Neal with boost-it sled and the krazy canadian's sleds are both running 174.

power

if indeed it's an impulse kit and running 16psi it's making closer to 300 hp than 270hp. so not only are you at a huge hp disadvantage your also missing a lot of track. but still sounds like you had a great day.

Would a full Kmod with Raptors work better?? My own experience your never gonna do what the Impulse Nytro does prolly at any boost.

162-174

Have same issue with my one TM1000. My new (250 mile) 3 x174 delaminated last season due to a defect and because it was cut no warranty. Not wanting that again I put new 85 duro 2.6 PC in a 162. Great track, sled is lot of fun but no longer a chute climber. Had to adjust suspension to max coupling (Timbersled) and it is never off the rear idler. The CR 174 tunnel looks a little strange being so long.
Ordered another 3x174. Should be here this week. I have another TM1000 with 2.5x174 and it climbs awesome but 3 inch will outclimb it. 174 is the ticket for steep and long with high hp. JMO.

FYI- THIS IS WHAT KEVIN SUGGESTED.

Ok
With every thing considered with your set up, set the rear air presure in the shock to 170, then pull your straps up one hole.
With the 3'' track the straps dont need to be as far out, you will still get good coupling with them one hole up, the reason the front is so heavy is the back end is two stiff and not letting the rear of the sled down enough when you sit on it.

I have had turbo sleds wheelie up when the back end is to stiff also, when the rear shock doesn't compress as much it cant couple the front arm up and it will wheelie. The more the rear arm moves the more the front arm is pulled up (more coupling).
Change them two settings and you will see a difference.

174" track and a baker skid or m-10 will be the ticket. lots of skids work, but the m-10 and baker skid flat out work. Have a 162 under my tnytro and front end stays down no probs.

saw a 1100t run a couple weeks ago and it flat out looked like it ripped. very impressed with how much track speed it had.

Av8er, you're a pilot right? Just strap on a jet engine on the back of your sled and I guarantee no one will beat you up the hill again. Show those clowns on the hill with their yamis what boost really is. And after you do that if you still can't keep the front end down, just adjust your flaps or something. You're a pilot, you'll figure that out. There's no reason you have to live with not having the biggest baddest sled in the world. You can make it happen.

If you set the air pressure at 170 and pull the limiter up what are the chances it will ever compress the back shock enough to couple? It would seem to me at that point a stock skid would work just as well. I am running a TM8 also with a timbersled skid (the new version) and was experiencing the same problems. I took the 3 inch off and put on a 2.6 PC. I'm still having problems on steep and deep but the track swap seemed to really help. Just my .02...

I'm not after the biggest and baddest sled

I just want the best setup for the equipment that I have. Doesn't everyone?
the details about getting spanked by the Alpine Turbo is just my motivation. Thought I would share some background to make my post more interesting.

If i really wanted to do something wicked i would strap some JATO packs to my rear bumper and see if I can make my sled, Fly- they say if you have enough thrust u can make anything fly- ha ha

You cannot have it all, you want a fun sled to play with go 162 P/C youy want to be king of the hill you are going to have either a M1000 with rac gas and a 174" or another Yami 4-stroke with 300-350 hp. O I ran my boost to 22lbs one time and believe it or not after a few runs I turned it back to 17 lbs I found it aLOT more fun.I think a 3" track is snow specific deep powder great set up snow or trail not so much. Which do you ride the MOST??? That should govern your choice, not getin spanked because there is always someone with bigger you now whats(2) or a bigger bank account. NOONE stays on top for long nowadays.......02:face-icon-small-win

Heh Here iss another solution Buy the new Yamaha viper with the nitro motor put on a turbo and you are set to compete
...02

Maybe

It was an eye opener, needed to fix my setup, i wasn't happy with it, added KMOD and 3" this year. needed to make some tweaks

what kinda suprised me was my buddies m1000 running only 6lbs made it pretty far up that chute before it got stuck thought yours at 10lbs would've blew by his mark but he has a 174 2 1/2

exactly

a 174 carries alot better over the deep snow, but a m1000 at 6psi is around the same HP as my 800 on 10 psi, what was happening was my 3" was hooking up really well, the front would go in the air 2-3 feet and then I lost my mometum, all the weight was in the back and it just wanted to dig IN. But I've made some tweaks and it should be a better circumstances and outcome now. 3 weeks earlier I climbed out of all of those chutes with a 2.25" powerclaw.
