Deep untouched snow back in the basin if you know where to look. It's good in lot's of areas in SoapStone but the Honey Holes were pristine!!!! Laid fresh tracks most of the day after leaving the road ;) it just got better and better all afternoon.

Not good lighting for pics, mostly flat light today but tomorrow should be sweet for those that like to venture off the beaten path :):):)

150

We parked on Hwy 150 at the Mirror Lake TH. Wasn't too bad at all. We were in the Parking Lot by 9:00 and were the first to park on the road. We could've fit in the parking lot but had 5 rigs in our group so just parked on the street to keep us all together. Not as many vehicles as I would've expected with all the crap happening on the Nobletts side on 35
Maybe only 35 to 40 rigs total today

We found new untouched snow all day as well. Never even saw another sled all day. I still wonder where everyone goes.

I totally agree, everytime I get back to the parking lot I wonder where are all the people that belong to all these trucks because we sure didn't see them or hear them on the mountain. Maybe we just enjoy going where nobody else likes to venture who knows.

If you like to play in the trees and the small interconnecting meadows that you can only find by getting off the beaten path then there is fresh untouched to be had practically all day every day.

Where to park???

Depends on where you want to ride :)
Hwy 150 wasn't bad at all but I've been parking there for the last couple of years, used to go to Nobletts all the time until the last couple years. I've just bought the annual pass for Mirror Lake the last 3 years and head that way in most weekends

Storms are rolling in!!! the next 3-4 days are gonna be really awesome so get out and enjoy it, most riding areas North of Fairview should have 1-3' of new snow by Monday morning.
Be advised that the sun returns and the Inversion will be very strong (mid 40's up high) next week and beyond so by Wednesday next week it will be settled out up high. Get out and enjoy it while its coming down. This next inversion should not be as long lasting as the last one (3-4 weeks) but currently there really is nothing on the horizon (10 days out) or so.

Storms are on the horizon again, this time starting around Jan 30th or so and continuing for the foreseeable future (Feb 6th maybe beyond). The probability is that the most snow will be in areas around Steamboat Springs CO and areas of Wyoming, Big Horns and Togwotee area. Utah is on the fringe so we will get some snow but not all. Best bet is Steamboat springs CO area. If your thinking of road trippn I would count on them by next weekend, they have been getting great snow already this season so the law of continuity is in effect here.

Storm still looks on track. Even California might see winter after all. Super Bowl Sunday looks pretty nasty for NYC. Ought to be interesting. Storms next weekend will mostly be valley rain for the wasatch front.

2-3" of water content coming with the storm this week. its gonna be a wet snow which normally would be bad but in order to salvage this years pack and really get a solid base we really need this heavy snow event, Avy conditions will be really bad during and right after the storm but should stabilize dramatically through next week, depending on how much water content we get. Snow levels will be above 6k for most of the storm, perhaps some valley snow Saturday in the central Wasatch front area. Somewhat stormy pattern remains in place next couple weeks, no major storms but enough to keep things fresh and keep the blasted inversion at bay. :sing:

Soapstone on Sat. Morning. Leaving the Mirror Lake Parking Lot headed up to the basin at 9:00. Headed back in the way back where only few dare venture ;) That's where the really good stuff is!!!!! :)

Did this around 9. Found good snow all day, did see plenty o sleds. Nice country.

Buddy broke a crank shaft...bummer.

:

There were definitely plenty of sleds in the parking lot today, in fact the parking lot was an absolute cluster ?@&$ at 9:00 because some Azzhats don't know how to park and left no room for vehicles to turn around. We were unloaded and ready to roll by that time and just watched the circus unfold lol!!!

Didn't see many other sleds back in the way back, but we left lots of tracks ohhhh and a few trenches ;) I brushed up on my Chinese with a few of this e trenches haha. We rode untracked powder practically all day. But hey a group of 9 aggressive sledders can track up a rather large area in short order :)
It was a great day on the mountain. Little bit o' fresh down low and a lotto bit o' fresh and fluffy up top. Best snow is always in the trees :) If you like it in the trees you won't be disappointed. :):):)
