Good, bad, the ugly about Blue Marble oil in an '09 800r?

I've been using Blue Marble in 3 of my 5 Skidoos for 4 years now, I tend to believe their claims about what it will do, Snowtech magazine tested Blue Marble and they found that all other things equal it gave 10% better fuel economy (because of reduced friction), emissions were reduced, Rave valves had less deposits, and after 2 or 3 tanks of fuel there was a noticeable increase in performance. My 02 700 has had Blue Marble since new, after 2000 miles there are zero carbon deposits on the Rave valves and the tops of the pistons are clean and shiny and there are no exhaust stains on the belly pan, I am very satisfied with it. My other 2 sleds are lower HP motors and I am using Injex in them with excellent results also, the 94 583 has about 8000 miles on it and has only lost 1# of compression since new. A couple years ago I told the local performance shop about Blue Marble and he is now a firm believer and sells more Blue Marble than anything else.

cleaning raves mar25..08 001.jpgcleaning raves mar25..08 002.jpgcleaning raves mar25..08 003.jpg thats with about 3700 miles in a 800 never taken out before and didnt touch them when i took them out. running mineral oil im more then impressed with that there. and interceptor clogs up the power valves on cats trust me i know, got to run dominator if you want to run amsoil.

Don't use anything but XPS. My motor guy used to run Amsoil until he saw what it does to cranks. XPS is formulated for Rotax engines and high output 2 strokes. As a ski-doo dealer, we wouldnt warranty cranks if you didnt run XPS.

Been running Blue Marble for the past 5 seasons. Never once has the issue of XPS versus other oil ever come up with a warranty claim! Just had my 07 motor replaced under warranty no questions asked and yes I was running Blue Marble in it. My only issue with any oil right now is PRICE! But the Walmart oil brought up in a above post, I will pass on that one. In fact I paid $55.00 recently for a gallon of XPS synthetic for my wifes 600 SDI.

You are full of SH**, you can't tell anyone what oil they have to use or you won't warrenty their sled. You wouldnt be my dealer for long. funny, funny stuff you find people saying on message boards

Amsoil

Amsoil 110% all the way. I have run this in various doos from 2001 till present with nothing but great results. I personally run the dominator now. I used to run the hp with great results. Just thought I would try there lineup out. The domintor is very good oil with protection for engines which run on the edge keeping them alive when your junk skidoo mineral oil will fail. I can tell you that skidoo marks up the cost of there oil 200% and ya of course they like to sell it. As for a skidoo mechanic telling you to run there product, it is no different than an amsoil representive telling you to run there product. My vote is for what works and has worked for years on the bottle or whatever build you may run.... Amsoil!

Unless you give XPS away free, you would be warranting my crank The law says so. An attorney would have a ball with that one.

I laugh at people that pay outrageous amounts for oil. Its all monkey see monkey do. who cares if you have to clean your power valves more often? Im not concerned about my power valves, im concerned about my crank and pistons. And if a dealer tells you that only doo oil will work in your doo, and you actually believe it then i guess you deserve to pay 55 bucks a gallon.......because you are retarded. I will continue to run the walmart stuff, and i will continue to ride my sled for cheaper than the next guy. oil is oil is oil is oil......as long as its not synthetic

Agreed, cleaning powervalves often should be done no matter what (im in the process of learning). I will never pay 50 a gallon for oil again...

Oil is not oil. It is like saying gas is gas. Do you run 85 or 91 octane in your sled? Different oils have different additive packages, detergents, etc. I have been involved in an oil test with an oil company testing various additive packages. We sent them oil samples and at the end of the season they kept the pistons, rings, and cylinders so that they could see which one performed the best. I personally will not run a cheaper oil just to save a few bucks.

I am not arguing the warranty issue using different oils, because I don't know if that is really "the law" or not. However, the ski do owners manual does say the following:
"These engines were specifically developed and tested with xp-s synthetic blend 2-stroke oil. The use of any other 2-stroke engine oils may cause severe engine damage and may void the limited warranty. Use only xp-s synthetic blend 2-stroke oil."
This is in reference to the 500ss, 600 etec and 800r motors.

I simply use the xp-s synthetic blend. It's not worth the risk or the down time for me. I definitely wouldn't use the super tech stuff from walmart. Maybe on a fan, but not a high performance sled.

Just my .02 cents.

i bet you run amsoil because they give you a free decal eh?

actually mineral oil in bulk is the cheapest oil i can basically by in a jug. use to run shell advance cause it was relatively cheep but didnt make motors last worth crap in arcticcats. and the power valve issue is quite serious actually considering you want the most power on the hill every day you go riding not sticking power valves.

I've been testing Blue Marble for awhile now.

I have rum BM for the past 3 seasons. 05 600SDI 3500miles, 06 800Ptek 3400 miles, 08 800R 1000 mile and 09 800R 200 miles. As stated here and on the BM website I seen the increased RPM's from lower friction. I saw the pistons and cylinders after 1100 miles when the 06 had a motor mod done, they looks new, cylinder scoring and ring edges look perfect. No smell and drastically reduced smoke. Most people in our group have changed over now and when I ride with someone running other oils the stink is bad. Cloths don't stink either. I also run BM in 2 watercraft, 1 skidoo 22ft boat, quicky saw and mechanical tamper and BM's four stroke additive in 16 trucks, four gas powered manlifts. Total now of over $500,000 in vehicles and equipment under test with zero failures and very good performance/gas mileage. The test continues.

i dont deny that the stuff doesnt work good, i just think its a waste of money. In my 600 SDI i can tell no difference other than smell from BM versus the lucas oil im using now. The only time i have seen oil type affect a engine is when my buddy used a full synthetic in a SDI engine. BRP says uses a semi, which is why i choose what i did. I use roughly a gallon of oil every few weeks during the winter, so the price makes a pretty big difference to me....

ran my 583 for 10k miles andtook it apart and bearings looked like new, smells good and doesnt burn ur eyes while idling, klotz is my choice

Im not sure if your familiar with RK Tek, but hes a pretty well known engine guy and he said the same thing about BM in a certain sled "looked like new", and that in his opinion, this isnt a good thing...

The oil wars on the forums are always interesting to me. Alot of rationalizations and speculation. Most poeple say theirs is the best and take it as a personal insult that someone likes a different kind. This thread started with someone asking what results people had with BM but 75% of the posts don't have a thing to do with BM. It's OK to like and use other oils. Many types and names of oils, many prices and results. Find one that does what you want and ride into the sunset.
