Golden Snow Conditions???

We rode Silent on Saturday, parked at 17km. Trail in was super smooth. There was about 6-8 inches of fresh over Sledhead88's tracks from Friday. Light came and went but there was some real good untouched, deep powder in the back bowl that seemed to hold the clouds apart and we had fun playing in it. Needed the spare gas that day.

Not as many people riding this weekend, not sure why.

SUPERBOWL

Conditions???????

Hey guys thinking about heading out with a group tommorow just wondering what snow and avvy conditions are like there at the moment. We were thinking about valemount but it sounds like avvy conditions are pretty sketchy right now there. Please post and let us know. Thanks.:beer;

Rode Quartz today..... got out early and found a couple ffet of powder. On and off good light, but socked in pretty good. Snows there, just have to go find it.

I rode hope.

We rode hope this weekend, and the snow was:

GOOOOD and DEEEEP!
Saturday was about a foot of fresh on top of a couple of feet of recent.
Sunday we saw 2 other people and had an additional 8 inches.
Trail was brutal...

Pretty much had to keep it pinned most of the time. I went through about 50 litres by 3 pm.
There were spots you would jump off and it would be waist to titz deep, a lot of it was from wind loading, but in the trees it was an honest 3 feet of recent soft snow.
Lots of signs of instability, we did a snowpack test, and about a meter down it was breaking away. the fresh layers were still not bound either yet... yet there were a few guys out there taking pokes at some steep huge hills....too much of a gamble for me....especially hope....

I will get some pics up.

just got back monday and to say the least there was about chest deep snow anywhere we were boondocking. on sunday at quartz you could here avalanches popping all over the place. no sun which was probably good cause you could not see anything at higher elevations. play in the trees....too much fun with this much snow.

Anyone wanna meet up this weekend to do some sledd'n in Golden? will most likely do silent p. on saturday and perhaps something different sunday and monday (morning), we're flexable. we are leaving from edmonton and will also have an extra spot in an enclosed if anyone is along the way..!

there is only 2 of us and it would be nice to get another 1 or 2 guys together.
we'll be staying at the golden rim too.

We may be heading out Saturday morning for Golden as well. May have a couple of us going or 4 or 5 of us going. I'll let u know as we figure out more. Anybody know how the snow is? Weather network says shes fairly warm out, hopefully the mountains aren't getting rain

Me and a buddy are going out to Golden Feb 29th, riding the 1st and 2nd.

Never been there before, hoping to meet up with someone who knows the area.

IMSICK?

Just got back from Golden, rode Tues, Wed and Thurs. Awesome weather sunny skies and no clouds the whole time.
The riding conditions where getting very tracked up, I would not even ride Quartz until they got more snow.

Also a quick thank you to the Golden Snowmobile club or who ever looks after the trails, the BEST TRAILS I have ever rode anywhere. It was such a treat to have trails into every riding area as smooth as those trails where. It was my first trip to Golden but I will definatley be back!

was at home last weekend & rode Gorman(cirque) on Sunday. weather was amazing, but slides were dropping everywhere.... a few of us sitting at the bottom of one particular hill were very close to being in one!!! sun was heating up the rocks too much apparently.

ride safe peeps

Was good to run into you again last Sunday Tbone. It was certainly a stellar day and we saw almost every local we know. After Cirque we went to check out East Quartz. It looked like four guys had spent the whole day over there climbing everything in site. I don't think they gave a second thought to avalanches. A couple of their side hill lines were almost 1/8 mile long right under some huge cornices.

Where did you have the close encounter?

it's a little unfamiliar to me, but i think the guys were saying it was the chute into Oldman. we just were coming down into Cirque i think & we stopped at a chute that was to our imediate left. there was one track up part way but we (me) said "not gonna climb it today". one of a group of 4 that had come up behind us took a pull at it right away. the avy started coming down the chute, then more broke off from the left & then the right side as well. it was coming at us(we were off the side of the hill) so i took off down thru the bottom of the chute & up the other side & crossed in front of the slide.........not my smartest idea at the time.......... then headed down the other side. as i was on the move, i looked to my right & saw the avy pass me on it's way down the hill.............. it was friggin moving fast to pass me!!!!

now here's what we discussed afterwards....... did i make the right decision to take off? do i sit & wait for the slide to get to us or take off to outrun it? the others didn't move an inch & the slide rolled right up to them & one guys' ski was covered . they said when i took off, that they couldn't see the slide or how close it was due to the snow dust from it. i wasn't gonna sit & wait for it & i moved quick enuff to get down the hill & across the chute b4 it hit there......... but it wasn't far behind me. too close for comfort though!!!!
