Golden conditions 09/10

Thanks Steel Town! It is an easy cross over sled from the doo. I tried hard to out pull an XP on the weekend and just couldn't do it. The Yam just isn't in the 800 class.
Gonna have to add some boost! Had a great few days on her stock though! Surprised how well it sidehills and jumps. really unexpected!
Conditions are looking amazing out there for the holidays!
Sun, sun, sun!
This last system did burry some week layers so keep your heads up out there. This are moving! Check the bulletins at www.avalanche.ca!

Sweet man, I'll be up there on the 27th and then to do my course with you guys on the 2-3, have a great christmas.

Hey guys whats the snow report looking like out there looking to head west Jan 789. Need some quality info. Thinkin about sicamous too but Golden is easier. Less time driving = more riding.

We rode Gorman boxing day and were first up freshly groomed trail. It was cold loading and unloading at the truck but only -1 up on the mountain. Gorman, Holt and Lang are windblown and nearly rode-out. We went over into east Quartz and found some really good snow. Not sure but we may have been the first in there this year. Later went through Cirque over to upper Quartz lake and found some real nice powder in there too.

We could hear people trying to get into East Quartz from the Quartz trail direction but they never got through. I wonder if they could hear us marking up all that untouched snow? :) Not many people out boxing day but we passed a lot of sledders going west as we headed home.

crazy inversion this week. -20 in town 0 at 8000'.
South facing got BAKED and north facing grew surface hoar like you wouldn't believe! What does this mean? Nothing now, but after the next system rolls through keep your heads up for some widespread naturals!
For now we have a super bomber snow pack with hero type riding!

Rode Hope yesterday. Conditions were great, but 15-20cm soft slabs coming down everywhere. We witnessed both natural and remote triggered slides. That frost layer is bad news folks.

Just got back from Quartz after 2 days doing my AST1 with Hangfire/GSr guys.
Ryan was an incredible instructor, me and the wife had a blast. I found out that even though I though I knew a bunch, I actually knew nothing and will be reluctant to ride with some of my budiies now until they take a course, I'm so lucky.
BTW it was dumping up there, the snow is very light and fluffy.
Also, the water slide at the golden rim inn rocks

Hi Steel town,
I too took my coarse through Hangfire and can not believe the wealth of information I left the coarse with.

When we took ours it was in the mid -20's and I was able to put the cold off my mind as I took in all the fabulous info taught by Ryan and Aaron.

I too am leaning to riding only with people that have been trained so if I do get buried I and my family stand a real good chance on me surviving.

Its hard to believe that a handicapped person that has a rough time walking through deep snow at all can find three buried beacons in five minutes.Sure gives anyone that has been buried a very good chance on survival.

I am thinking I am going to do a refresher coarse again next season just to make sure this old brain of mine retains all the valuable info taught in this very informative class.

As the snowpack now seems to be taking a turn for the bad this season please everyone for yours and the sake of your families,go take a coarse, you will not believe what you will learn.

You can have all the safety equipment in the world, airbags, beacons even the good Lord looking down on you is not going to help with out the proper knowledge on how to use your gear and how to read the terrain.

Happy New Year and safe sledding to all,
Dave

Hey Dave
Ryan and Aaron know their stuff, and can rip it up as well. Glad to hear you took your course as well. I'm pumped to go out and not just ride, but try and persuade fellow sledders to make better choices. I also want to dig a few pits here and there to check things out.

yep getting touchy out here, but shouldn't hold ya back from slaying trees or low angle slopes!!
Snowed at least 25 up there last night / today, and nothing but snow in the forecast for the next few days.
Suppose to break this weekend..... sounds almost too good to be true.....
Gaaaaaame on!

2.5 to 3 feet of fresh snow, if your not out here you should be, its super deep, suns suppose to be out today. post some pics after this weekend.. daaaaaaammm!!!

Silent pass was epic this weekend! Blue bird day on Sat. anywhere from 50 to 100+ cm of fresh snow. Temps were -5c

Lots of stuck sleds everywhere. Sorry no pics, to busy riding:D
