Golden area thiefs

I was riding golden dec 28-30 never heard of anything, what day was it your buddy got hit,I now on the 30 on are way out of silent we meant a white jeep 4 door heading inn it had alberta liecnce plates about 4 pm, seemed like everyone was back to there rigs.

Was at Gorman on the 31st as well as a five days earlier in December. The lady collecting trail fees was checking out everyone and even took a tour up to the parking lot a few times in the afternoon. She said she even called the cops to check out a guy in a pathfinder heading up with no sled to "find his buddies" (entirely possible, by the way). I'd say it's either crackheads (they are making tours out of the city, better lock up your dirt bikes) or local punks pissed off that there's 100 sleds up at gorman.

I was one of the guys that was broken into at Silent Pass a couple of weeks back and still can't believe that the town is sitting on their hands doing nothing about it. Laugh and joke all you want, but we took 3 guys out that could have died out there. Anyone who has gone to Silent knows that you are coming in on fumes in their sled after a hard day. If your truck gets trashed (like the guys we helped out) its - 17 (or worse), and no one is left at the staging area to help the reality is that you can die walking 30KM to the nearest house.

I like riding in golden, but will never go back and risk my rig until I know the short-sighted town council gets smart enough to pay someone a lousy extra $40 to have them sit at the gate and patrol the parking areas till 4. I know our group of riders usually drops $1000+ dollars in gas, food, and booze over a couple of days. I'm sure you can times that considerably if you include all the sled riders. Apparently that means nothing to the local businesses or the Chamber of Commerce. The only way any changes are going to happen is if the local businesses (restaurants, hotels) AND the golden snowmobile club work together to force the town council to do something.

imo,I would say it is in the clubs hands for they are the ones collecting trail passes, and im pretty sure there makin money at it,local cops dont seem to care much about it and i would say the town council really has nothing to do with it.The groomer gets paid from the club wich they probably pay for out of 1 good day collecting at quartz only, and pay for a whole week of groomin out of that .do the math i think they can afford parking attendants for the day wich i believe they are doing.

We were there between xmas and new years and had no problems. If the cops don't catch up with these guys there luck will eventually run out. Mabye one of us will get lucky and catch up with them...;) I know if I found them in my rig it would be a VERY long walk back to town for them and they might just get lost or something!:D

You guys should set up a game camera or two in the bushes. I am not sure how many pictures they can take (there may be a lot of motion and use up film or memory before thief's come and visit) but it could get a visual without risking confrontation. Just a thought. I hope you stop em, that must be very frustrating.

Caught?

In another thread someone reports they were caught in Canmore.....anyone know anymore about that? Poloris, is it you? Ha. It sucks for sure guys, all I can see is keep emailing the club and the trail society, and the chamber of commerce. The town council doesn't have much to do with it, and the rcmp have more important things to deal with, like giving me a $311 fine on New Years for dd'ing with too many people in the truck.....so lame.

Name is Poloris1(has been a member of sledding club for years and can't spell Polaris?)
Rides a Yamaha? ;)Thinks no one should use his mountains but him? :eek:Thinks boarders are all punks? Sounds like a tree huggin skier to me!( I personally, have nothing against snowboarders or skiers, or even people who ride Polaris's). And wth does getting a job have to do with it?:beer; Why should thieves be the responsibility of the snowmobile club?

do you believe everything you read, the comment about getting a job is so that you can afford your own toys and not steal other's, or were you born with a silver spoon up yours?

POLORIS

A few of us are thinking of doing just that

I don't fit the profile of a thief....I'm a skier. The game camera is a great idea, even a regular vid camera in a weather proof box would be good, set it up in the morning on your way in and collect it in the afternoon when you return.....

What you really need is a Trunk Monkey!

I like the idea of hiding in the vehicle and waiting....with a Streetsweeper

We had an issue like this in the Cariboo. All licence plate numbers were taken down at roadblocks. Resident or not, everyone had to stop and ID themselves.

They could do the same at the lot, if you're legit, then there should be no problem handing over ID...

We had a similar problem up north, none of the trails are groomed so there is no one at the staging areas during the day. There was no help in sight from the local police so the sledders got togeather and had people wait at each area for a couple of weekends. They caught the people and got a hold of there ID and turned them in. I don't think the police were able to do much but now that the local area riders knew who it was the problem came to a sudden stop, just an idea!!!

I cant believe this
