Give me your opinions on track lengths

I will dig some up!
It will not go straight up for ever it dogs down; but it will go anywhere in the trees, if is starts to dig a little just jump up a couple times and it walks right back up on top of the snow.. Almost as fun as the m1000 haha!!

Sure liked the old Enticer 340 and a young back when it was stuck. Sure hate the 162" and the old back when it's stuck.

I ride a 166 and I am thinking of going to a 174. I could care less about high marking on deep days I want to go over the top and into the next bowl. If you are running a whistle you will really notice a big difference with that 163 track from what you are running now. My 900 does not put out the horsepower your turbo does and it is heavier so I feel the longer track may be warranted. I really like the 166 track and would be interested to see it run on a turbo D7 or D8.

I've worked up in steps 136-151-159-162. I've never thought of going back the other way.:beer;

DIK WAVING CONTEST, HIGHEST MARK ON THE HILL not me mines on a lil 700 i greatly benifit from the 174 in the trees you can stop and go as you please turns a horrible rider "me" into a good rider
.

this guys starting post was he rides deep powder unmarked areas where the longer tracks shine hes wanting to stay where hes at or go 170+ obviously hes not going shorter

My point then would be to stay where he's at, maybe upgrade the type of track. The long tracks are fun about 5 days out of the year, I ride 60+ days a year & didn't have a single day last year where I was disappointed in the shorter track. Even a 162 feels like a turd to me unless it has huge power.
I ride deep powder & big climbs as well, I just like the challenge.

One thing to consider, I don't say it often cause it causes a panty bunching contest... A better rider will take a shorter track where a lesser rider needs a longer track. So yes, that means a shorter track is a challenge, to me that is what is 1/2 of the fun, the challenge of beating a long track sled with a shorty. (the new PC track makes a BIG difference in that dept though)
That comparison stands true whether it's a 162 vs a 174, or a 141 vs a 153, it all depends on how you like to ride.

Agreed as said above. I enjoy the challenge of a shorter track in the steep and deep (supposing that everybody thinks a 151 is a short track). I think its funny watching a big guy on a 174 go straight up something and then come back down and think he's the **** for making it to the top. Then I make a go at it and make it to the top as well but instead of just standing there holding the throttle wide open I have to work from side to side of the sled and actually make the sled get to the top instead of just being along for the ride. Not saying I'm a awesome rider by anymeans, I've just learned over the years how to make my sled go anywhere. In my eyes that is an advantage. Plus shorter tracks fly way better.

say,did you notice much difference going from a 151 to a 159??

Not anything negative. As has been stated; a longer track is much more forgiving if you pick a bad line and need to slow things down a bit. All about individual preference I suppose. I never found the 159 any harder to turnout than the 151 if that helps. :beer;

When you ride with Robbie and crew believe me a short track will your worst nightmare. When it can take 2 hours to blaze a trail up a steep hill through very tight trees in 3-4' of fluff you are going to get mighty cold and bored waiting for the trail to be made for you. I'm no genius but that does not sound like more fun to me. By the way a short trach in that group is anything less than a 162 x 2.5.

Rode with Robbie a couple times last year....was on a 162 powerclaw...this year...174"x 2.5"

people talk a LOT about tight tree riding...I have more sap on my tree this last year than the last 5 combined...and LOVED every minute of it!!!!!

Some of the best riding and most fun, pushed me more than any other group I have ever ridden with...COMPLETE permaGRIN...

The longer tracks and their "ten miles to turn around" story is the same thing that was said when we went to each new length of track...go 174 and you will love it!!!

If not, LOTS will buy it!!!

exactly!!!! this man knows what he's talking about.

if thats the case, hes after a challenge why does he have a td7 why not a 440 with a 136, i think hes after deep powder performance. our group would get tired of waiting for you with you -153 tracked sleds old guys get grump pretty fast :D

the bigger foot print does make it easier, but a shorter track makes you become a better rider. i've seen guys on 121s and 36s out climb 59s. both are a lot of fun, just better for diff things. jumping long tracks suck.

the challenge

Well I've read the young bucks liking the challenge of the short track but for me being a fat old fart who likes to play in the snow and get back to the truck without having a heart attack give me the 174. Right now I have a VE with the 159 and being the crappy rider I am those with shorter tracks all go places I'm not brave enough to venture. I bought a drop and roll kit last year and a 162 but just sold the track and am buying a 174 from Robbie where I also got the D/R kit. My challenge is getting into the next valley and back to the truck aliveeeeeeeeeeee.:face-icon-small-hap

it would be funny to take some of these guys that never rode with dave n robbie n have those two keep there helmets on until they go get us young guys unstuck, and dave can tell a story that beats all storys:beer;

Not a chance!!:eek: Rider ability is a factor no doubt; but a 136 is NOT going to climb with a 159 in any amount of powder. Maybe in mid May hero snow, that's it.

hi
i dont want to get in the middle of this but i run a camo extreme 156x2.5 and it the best track for me and my sled

if you want to run a 174 ( witch could be alot of fun) you need alot of power at the top of the climb i would say at least 200hp+

just my two cents

believe it or not its true. i was riding a 51 and i couldn't crest this hill top and either could other 59s and 51s. some sledneck riders were climbing it like nothing on 36s
