would you 174 guys still go 174 even with a lower displacement sled because wouldn't the difficulty of moving the track offset its flotation?

I agree with the reasons to buy a longer track, they DO get more traction.
I on the other hand am not out there for a dik waving contest to prove I can climb slightly higher than the next guy, I'm out there to have fun. For me having tried 136 - 162, I went from a 156 to a 141 & had way more fun last year because of it. I doubt I will ever go back to having a longer track, just more HP (putting a twisted 1000 RG setup on my short track or buying a new cf8T)
I do very little tree riding & live in an area with big climbs & big cornices, I split my time between jumping & getting to the jumps! SO in other words, not much slow speed riding where that longer track would make a big difference helping me float.
Short tracks have more fun!!!!

151 is perfect for me. I have beat many longer sleds. I can get more track speed. Boondocking is more about the rider. I have been in places where the longer sleds don't handle as good or turn as sharp. Hey, it is what ever works for you and the riding you do. Everybody on here is going to think their track length is the perfect one or they would ride something else. I would love to see someone take a 174 down to burandt's and put it up against his 153.

I run a 159 2" on my 1992 phazer geared and clutched accordingly no different than 136 phazer but even less getting stuck. i know kinda dumb but i was trying to convince myself otherwise then it actually worked!! its for my 7 year old and works great on bottomless days.
