So I am a flatlander but i mostly ride hidden powder spots on the north shore and by int falls. So climbability isnt crucial although i would like to take it out west some time soon. Prox with 136 sound good to anyone?

for me the chassis doesn't make or break the sled, motor does. That being said I like the edge chassis better because it trails nicer, although its colder to ride. My personal two sleds though are hard to compare. Gen 2 is a 1200 watercraft triple, motor is almost 150 lbs. vs the 800 at around 100. Gen 2 also has a wider front end and an m-10. All hurt the handling. The 800 is significantly lighter, and has a few little mods to help handling as well. So in areas that you have to be able to ride its the 800 hands down. I actually have just as much fun if not more on it. Only place the big one beats it are reliability, fuel mileage, and ride. Edge is my vote.

I have a 2000 700 RMK. I think the non VES 700 engine is the best they ever built. My riding partner has an 800 Rev and he has spent at least 4000 dollars trying to outdo my old 700 and he still can't come close. The best thing he did was put a Polaris clutch on it but still no soap. The 700 has close to 6000 miles and no engine work yet but when it does it won't owe me a thing. I love it.

Can someone list the years and various models the Edge chassis was used in? I'm looking to upgrade the wifes sled from an old XLT (which actually runs awesome, just heavy and old) to something a bit newer without forking out for a current gen RMK.

Got both.......

The Edge chassis is sooo much better on the trail and all around riding, BUT, in deep snow and climbing (in the deep) my old school mod would whoop up on my edge if they had equal power. The nice thing about a 02 or newer sled, aside from a bit better suspension, is the exhaust valve motor, better carbs (if stock), etc. My wedge (I say wedge because it has a 97 bulkhead and a 98 motor) has a D&R and VE tunnel so it's not exactly what you would probably find while shopping.
My $.02, if buying a stock sled and plan on leaving the chasis alone, buy an Edge.
