Gear box vs cvt

So you have to ask your self, why did all the Snow Hawk riders with 150hp motors and cvt clutch's drift off and buy snowbikes ?

They did? :face-icon-small-coo Id say they drifted off because you practically have to own a machine shop to keep one going haha.

Back on topic. I agree with the fact never once have I thought while riding dirt that I wanted a cvt so why do I need it for snow.

I hate 4 wheelers but got one just to plow my driveway and the first one has a cvt because i thought it would plow better. I later got one with a 5 speed and half the hp and it worked just as well. I know a cvt engine can be tuned for more peak hp per cc but I've been tuning sled clutches for decades and I'm so picky they never seem to work perfect. My snow bike with hydraulic clutch is PERFECT. If it ever does bog a bit I can just apply the lightest touch with my left finger and slip it back up to speed.

Cvt is great. That's what I loved about my hawk is the drifting under full power. Hawk is not as nimble and ski steered like a bike so therenot as precise. My bikes are not as light of quiet as nimble as a 300 smoker bike but when you twist the throttle you know what's inside and your smile is exploding out of your lid.

I'm loving the cvt bikes I built and hopefully I can keep making them better. I know here are several guys making similar copies now so be interesting to see how they compare

Just back from the first trip in powder with the 300 XCWs. I think the so call "smokers", being so light, have a leg up on all the bigger 450-500s as far as weight goes (both on snow and dirt), but indeed suffer a little in power on the snow. Either way, my vote is still with 300 2Ts and the gold standard, good old fashion gears and plate clutch.

You know, the Honda mini vans are coming with CVTs now. That kind of sums it all up right there.:face-icon-small-ton
